I recently had some starting issues. I think these issues were caused by my starter pinion gear and the teeth of the flywheel on my 470.
I put in a new starter pinion, only to have it chewed up again. Here are my questions:
1. Should the starter pinion gear be fully extended (engaging flywheel) when the starter is not being powered? Other starters I have seen move forward when engaged, then come back away from the flywheel when turned off. I am thinking I need a new starter
2. The teeth of my flywheel are pretty beat up. I have chewed up two starter pinion gears. Is this replacement difficult?
Anyone face this problem?
