Starting a motor?

Hi, all<br /><br />Another question from an obvious newbie

<br /><br />What should be done prior to and just after starting an outboard (125Hp Force)<br /><br />Sounds silly doesn't it, but i dont want to risk the motor if i dont have to.<br /><br />1) Turn battery on<br />2) Pump primer bulb till its hard<br />3) Choke and start<br />4) warm up for a couple of minutes??<br />5) go fishing<br /><br />Does this sound right, it what i do.<br />Should i warm the motor up more?<br />How long should i flush the motor out for after use (sea water)<br /><br />Now dont laugh when you reply!

Welcome to boating and the forum.<br />You should flush salt out of the cooling system after each use. I know it's a pain sometimes, but it must be done.<br />Your startup looks good to me.<br />After running the engine a few minutes,make a visual check that there is steam comming from the exaust,and glance down at the gauges often.

i find a little throttle on starting up helps it (catch)
