This is our first boat, it's a little Glaspar Sportster and has a 90hp Evinrude on the back, I think it's a 74.
When I bought the boat the owner ran the motor for me and it sounded fine, no oil leaks that I could find and everything was clean and well tended. He said the engine was rebuilt 2 years ago and runs great.
In our attempt to get everything ready to hit the lake, we wanted to start the engine to get familiar with it, I can start it but it runs at full throttle and doesn't idle. Before anyone asks the throttle is in the idle position
, so I pulled off the cover and the carb intakes look like they are fully open. I can see where the throttle lever pushes them further open but they aren't even touching that, they are WIDE open.
So what did I do wrong? and how do I set them back to closed so I can start the boat and idle it, I'm pretty handy with engines and things but outboards are a new animal and I couldn't figure out how the intakes opened so far.
Thanks
