Re: State of the Union Address

legal marriage as defined would certainly
legitimize the gay community and their standing
as "coming of age" and normality.

Re: State of the Union Address

Websters Dictionary
marriage.
1. the state of being married; relation between
husband and wife.
SYN. refers to the state of, or relation between
a man and woman who have become husband and wife
or to the ceremony marking this union.

I would hope it not to be confused with same sex unions.
I have no religious affiliations, although I do
believe in God.
Holy matrimony is a religious sacrament, marriage
is not.

Since I live in MA, as soon as the law takes affect I am filing a law suit to marry 2 women. We 3 are consenting adults and we deserve equal protection under the law.

Is one of them your mother/sister/first cousin? That is gonna be next you know. If same sex people can be joined in a union, why not brother/sister?

That's right. The government should not have any say in behavior that does not hurt other people.

There should be no drug laws

There should be no prostitution laws

There should be no gambling laws

etc, etc.

We need a boundary-less society

Bush should do more Governing and less bible thumping.
Gay marriages, abortion, and cell research should really have nothing to do with his authority. You'd think he'd have better things to do than practice his personal agenda.

Re: State of the Union Address

You got that right Toad. Women should be able to do whatever they please with aborted fetuses. And if those cells can be used by someone they should have an absolute right to sell them to the highest bidder.

And, who the heck is the government to tell me I can't sell my organs? I have an extra kidney. I don't need it. Why can't I sell it? And, if I should lose a family member, why can't I sell the organs? Why can I only give them away? What gives them the right to tell me what I can and can't do with my property?

Who cares if the majority of citizen's in this country disagree with me? Just because we have majority rule, we also protect minorities. Government has no right regulating behavior that does not directly hurt others.

That's just one example, where does it stop? "I love my golden retriever, where does the government get off saying beastiality is against the law?" The line has got to be drawn somewhere, draw it now and stop spending millions on these lawsuits. What...you can't sell a relatives DNA? John Henry Williams is gonna be pissed!!!

All I'm saying, is "Bush is a religious fanatic"

"Bush Blocks Stem Cell Funding That Would Destroy Embryos"

http://www.nrlc.org/news/2001/NRL08/bush.html

I'm saying leave it to the medical researchers and experts. Perhaps if you had cancer you'd understand.

Re: State of the Union Address

I agree Toad. Just because he thinks abortion is murder, what right does he have in telling people they can't have abortions and use the cells from the fetus for whatever purpose they want?

What right does he have to tell women they can't get pregnant, abort the fetus and sell those valuable cells?

What right does he have to tell me I can't sell my organs for that matter?

He is just a religious nut! How can any sane person vote for such a zealot?

And, I am not buying into this garbage that people once felt the same way about African Americans. That they were not human beings but property that could be used any way the owner chose. I mean that is just right wing idealogical garbage if you ask me. I mean, everybody knows a fetus is not a human being! Well at least not until the 3rd trimester and maybe not even then.

Re: State of the Union Address

The President was brave to bring up the topic of the preservation of traditional marriage.

I have to say with all the people yelling about the government sticking their nose in their bedroom, they seem pretty anxious to make public what goes on in their bedroom.

The institution of marriage is to recognize the biological imperitive that sustains our race. It has evolved over the years to include certain advantages that makes life, the rearing of children and distribution property easier to manage legally. I could save a lot of money if I marry my brother. Only one healthcare, one deductable, I could recieve his pension should he die, etc.

Unfortunately for those who are in favor of gay marriage, every arguement for it can be translated to paligomy, pedifelia, beastiality, almost verbatim.

This debate is more about social indoctrination than any legal advantage gained by marriage. I pay more for my insurance cuz I smoke, but that can't hold a candle to the dangers of gay (mutual masterbation) sex. But they don't want their lifestyle held against them, just acknoldged when it is an advantage for them.

The government exiles me, taxes me, and profiles me just because I smoke, and a large portion of society agrees that making me a second class citizen is appropriate. What I see as dangerous, not only socially/morally, but healthwise allows me to be labeled as a homophobe. It's wrong, but it makes having to defend their lifestyle so much more easy by minimizing my point of view.

I don't think gays are bad people, they are free to be whatever they want to be, do whatever they want to do, without laws interferring. But their reasons for marriage are far different than the traditional reasons for marriage and therefore need to be defined differently.
