Ralph and Mikeandronda,

No, not for any old research, or sold to the high bidder, but to cancer research. Ralph, your orgrans get donated the same way they always did. This isn't Vietnam...
Nobody's looking to sell emryos to high bidders, or clone a basebvall team. We're just looking for a cancer cure.
Get it?
Bush doesn't seem to.

If nobody that did anything considered immoral by somebody else was allowed to marry and enjoy all of the benefits of citizenship, we would all be single.

I totally get it Toad - a cure at any cost and it doesn't matter who has to die to get it. And, if the cure needs cells from fetuses, then we need a good constant supply of fetuses but people can't sell them because this isn't Vietnam. I mean, we have to draw the line somewhere, right?

Poor old GW - he just isn't logical.

I give up. Not because I don't have good perspective, but because I know I can't get anywhere with people who've been brainwashed since birth.

I wish good health to you all. GW isn't helping the matter when yours fails you though. Just think about it.

Re: State of the Union Address

Toad, I've lost plenty of people I love to cancer, my mother has ovarian cancer and I have a friend who just had half her face, eye, and pallet removed. But as much as I love them and want to save them, I have no right to take other lives to do so. And, when you think abortion is murder, that is just what you would be doing. If a fetal cell cure to cancer were found the demand for those cells would encourage abortions in this country and others the likes of which stagger the imagination. But no money would exchanges hands right? I guess I am just a dumb old religious zealot like GW.

Toad, we all want a cure for cancer...but killing one life for the possibility of saving another doesnt make any sense in the oppositions eyes.

I'm a bit ignorant on the stem cell research issue. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we not doing some sort of limited research as we speak?

I guess thats just it. Its the pro-lifers/Catholics that are now potentially causing a delay in curing cancer. I say why lets throw every resource at this horrible disease so everybody alive can live a bit longer. Future generations can then prosper...You are disillusioned if you think spare embryos will ever be sold or marketed in Canada or the USA. All I'm saying is, make them available for cancer research. Thats all (And leave religion out of all this!!!)
PS-The only examples of gluttony I see are the evangelists on TV...

Lets kill off future generations in the womb so that future generations can live longer. Now I get it! What an advanced society we have become. Too bad we oulawed slavery - we could have had all the organs and cells we wanted!

There wouldnt be any abortion if the mother had to kill the baby herself! Doctor removes the fetus and lays it on the mothers belly and walks out of the room! Returns later to retreive the dead Baby! Gross but puts it into perspective!

Toad,

You are a true believer in the goodness of the individual for the benefit of the group. Unfortunately I have been involved in far too many busness and personal experiences to believe as well. Usually selfishness can be traced to be the catalyst for almost all differences of opinion.

You said we wouldn't use this technology to start a baseball team, well we have a hell of a clean up hitter in Ted Williams waiting for reanimation. This technology will become a commodity just like everything else. Once it becomes a commodity, the raw materials will, repeat WILL be made available. And like all commodities it will be sold.

It is better to curse the darkness than light the ......

Those of us whose experiences are different than yours are well aware of what some people are capable of doing. People in central america are being killed for their organs. You don't trust private industries, I don't trust government, so any research in this area must be under the most stringent safeguards and protocols.

It is frame of mind gained by experience not from birth. My parents are more liberal than plywoody. Your sweeping statements should be reviewed.

TOAD,

I never said, alluded to, or even insinuated anything about religion. Just because I don't believe in abortion doesn't mean it is based on some sort of religious premise.

Gluttony - Gerald Nadler????

Re: State of the Union Address

My favourite paragraph is this one;

Because of American leadership and resolve, the world is changing for the better. Last month, the leader of Libya voluntarily pledged to disclose and dismantle all of his regime's weapons of mass destruction programs, including a uranium enrichment project for nuclear weapons. Colonel Qadhafi correctly judged that his country would be better off, and far more secure, without weapons of mass murder. Nine months of intense negotiations involving the United States and Great Britain succeeded with Libya, while 12 years of diplomacy with Iraq did not. And one reason is clear: For diplomacy to be effective, words must be credible - and no one can now doubt the word of America.

For info on stem cell research and where it stands today:
http://stemcells.nih.gov/index.asp

For those opposed to stem cell research if it involves the early termination of a pregnancy let me pose this question:

Would you approve of stem cell research if the donor tissue came from fetuses lost due to verified miscarraige or accidents if the mother signed documents similar to what organ donors sign?
