Working on a 2001 90hp Yamaha Model 90TLRZ issue is it wont come on plane.
I have done some test on the stator and for starters I'm getting conflicting information.
A the manual calls for the low speed coil test Red and brown 60 dc volts and high speed coil test red and blue 100 dc volt ..

CDI Troubleshooting guide calls for low speed coil test Red and brown 100 dc volts and high speed coil test red and blue 60 dc volts. I spoke to cdi and they said the low speed coil always has a a higher voltage then the high speed coil. so that is the specs I'm going with.
with that said if I test the low speed coil test Red and brown using red to red test lead and brown to black test lead I get 26 volts but if I test brown to red test lead and red to black test lead i get 60.

No where does it state which leads to test with I would assume red to red and brown to black which gives me 26 volts connected. but if I do the same test unconnected 78 volts

Moving on to high speed side It calls testing red to blue for 60 volts and I'm getting 125 volts connected or disconnected using red to red test lead and blue to black test lead
But if I use red to black test lead and blue to red test lead I get 13 I am kind of confused at which lead gets used on which wire. Maybe since red is the common wire it is a ground ? so it should be tested black test lead to red wire..

This is all done with a DVA

If someone could help me make since of this i would appreciate it

I aint no expert on these motors but are you sure the coil outputs are dc ?🙂
There not they are ac but you can't test peak voltage using ac you need to convert it to dc using a dva adapter or dva meter.. to remove read the peak voltage.

Black is universal color for ground unless it isn’t.

A schematic of the circuit will confirm either way.

Stator output is AC.
A diode in the dva circuit rectifies to DC before charging the capacitor (recording) for peak voltage reading
