Hi guys - and thank you in advance for your input on this - I have a 1965 boston whaler - 16.5 feet - with a johnson 50 (1982) on it. I just completely re did boat - and I am trying to do a nice job tying in the steering cable. The tilt tube on the engine is not an option because the hull gets in the way of the cable sliding through the engine supplied sleeve. So I fabricated a nice offset bracket for the cable fixed mount that i purchased from tele flex. What is annoying is that the U flex supplied nut threads down the sleeve only about half way - and there are two seperated sets of threads on this nut - seperated by a groove - what the hell purpose does that serve? Now if I leave this that way - it will half at least a half inch of play in the steering wheel - My aim is no play at all!! _ any suggestions - Thank you again - Paul:eek: and also - how can i post some pics of the boat - I am thrilled with how its turning out!!!

Don't know the answer to the nut question, but to post pictures, when you are entering your post click on "Go Advanced" below where you are typing. Another screen will come up where it will say "Manage Attachments". Click on that and follow the prompts to find and upload the picture from your computer. There are size limits.

When F_R posts in a thread, I pay attention and your question got me curious. I looked at my Uflex M66 steering cable and the nut has two sets of threads separated by what appears to be a red o-ring. I'm guessing the o-ring is an attempt to keep water out of the tilt tube or support tube. If your nut only has a groove, then it sounds like the o-ring is missing. I do not have a clue about why the nut will not seat properly. From the description of how you are making the connection to the motor, it sounds like you are using a Teleflex transom clamp block kit like those in the link below. If not, how are you making the motor connection?

I got the nut to thread down all the way now - I just had to reverse the tube for some odd reason - The threads were the same on both ends - but perhaps just not really cut properly - who knows? - Thank you both for your input guys... Paul

Great news! Glad you got that problem solved. By-the-way, I looked at your pictures in the other thread and you are to be commended for what you have done to save your Dad's classic old Whaler. Good luck!

Thank you vey much - My only regret is that I waited so long and put the project off - Other priorities came first like my house prject - but I wish I would have covered the hull better from the elements because it would have made resto a lot less labor intensive - Thank you again!!
