I had replace a old 115 merc with a 60HP BP merc. but I noticed that the steering wheel is off by about 90 degrees. Is there an adjustment for this? or do I just pull he wheel off and re-position it? Its on a pontoon.

thanks

Ayuh,... There's a minimal amount of adjustability at the tilt tube,...
Other than that,... Learn to live with it....

You can't reposition the wheel,.. It's keyed to 1 spot only...

I may be wrong here, but wouldn't it work to un-clip the steering cable and run it all the way out, reposition the wheel, then run the cable back in? It would take two people, with one person paying attention to when the cable is free? Just my guess.

That don't sound right, that means that its a hit and miss to install a steering wheel. Its ok if you can see the motor, Guess I could paint a red mark at the 'top' of the wheel.

Chris, If you have rack and pinon steering, you may be able to set the motor dead straight, disconect the rack, turn the wheel to be straight and then reattach the rack. Also, the length of the steering link from the cable to the motor may be adjustable. if the motor steers more one side than the other, this adjustment may be the correct one to make to compensate.

Re: Steering wheel adjustment question

Well, I was able to adjust the steering arm on the motor so now the wheel is upside down. I turned the center hub on the wheel so the name is right side up. Just have to learn to drive with the wheel upside down (that was better then at some odd angle.) you would think there would be adjustments on these things. ( I also was unable to get the wheel off after I removed the nut, I tired pulling, but did not want to break anything, thinking perhaps I can re-position the wheel 180 degrees). Anyone know how to get the wheel off?
