Bilge Pump = 14 AWG
Wash down = 12 AWG
Trim Tabs Control =14 AWG
Trim Tabs Power = 12 or 10 AWG
Lights and other Misc 5 amps and below = 14 AWG

Bilge Pump Should be an automatic type (has 3 wires) Ground, Power for automatic mode (connects directly to battery through a fuse), and Manual Override. The manual override can be supplied from your fuse block.

I would recommend using 10 AWG or 8 AWG between your house battery and the fuse block. All power for circuits such as lights stereo, etc, should come from the fuse block. If wired correctly you can use a 30 amp fuse as your main fuse feeding the fuse block.

The trim tabs should get their power from this fuse block as well but it would be necessary to run wire from the fuse block back to the trim tab pump. there is a set of wires that come from the trim tabs to the helm for control. If you have a set up like this I would recommend using 10 AWG for the power between the pump and fuse panel. 14 AWG should be ample for the control wires.

If you are adding a new fuse panel, I would recommend the ATC type panel rather than the buss fuse type panel. When installing the fuses be sure to use NO-OX-ID on the fuse tabs. this greatly cuts down on corrosion and problems down the road. In fact this should be used on any electrical connections. I wouldn't make a connection in a boat without it.

The wash down pump would be ok with 12 AWG, and should also be fused from the fuse panel mentioned above.

For a clean installation, I like to use The black wire covering like you see under the hood of cars, secured with Tie-Wraps (the one hole kind if you have a place to screw them to (With stainless screws).

This is the chart that I use for wire sizing. I tend to move up 1 wire size in most cases.

Seadogmike thanks for all the great info. Yea I was way off base thinking just using 12 g wire for everything. I sat down after reading your post and listed all the electrical stuff and the rated amps in the direction such as bilge pump. The wire chart you supplied will be a big help. The boat was originally an inboard outboard and I took all the electrical out as it was 20 + years old and in bad shape. I am starting from scratch. I did order the blue seas act fuse panel and bus bar which hopefully will come today. Possibly before I start wiring anything I can post a wire diagram ( eg wire size, and accessory and amp rating) and get your opinion on my plan of attack. Again thanks for your help.

Sure thing.
I may be in Chucktown in a couple weeks as well. One other thing, If you are crimping lugs rather than soldering them be sure to get a good crimper like the one shown here. I believe they are about $12 at harbor freight. They will not release the jaws unless the lug is fully crimped. Heat shrink all lugs and connections. If you solder the connections you can use non-insulated lugs with heat shrink over the connections.

Thanks to all for your wiring advice, I did a lot of research based on your advice and have started doing the wiring and it is going well. Hope to have it done in the next week. Completed wiring the bilge pump, wash down pump, and auto battery switch for the two batteries. I have the original Steiger swim plateform that I don' t need if any one wants it their more than welcome to it free to pickup or figure some way to ship. I will post pictures.

just let me know a couple of days in advance when you will be in charleston. I live in Mcclellanville about 25 miles north of charleston right off of 17 the plateform goes completely across the stern as I said the boat was an I/O

Bought some red led ribbon lights on eBay for under the gunnels. Put them in last night and as people have posted the adhesive does not do well on irregular surfaces (rough fiberglass). Looked this morning and they all fell done. Don't know if any one else thought of this, I used super glue gel and those lights aren't going any where worked great. Just thought I' pass this along. Wiring is going well will be hooking up the running lights today

Well into the final stretch of the rebuild. Ordered the 200 Yamaha today hope to have it on the boat some time next week. Picked up a Lowrance CHIRP 9 and will be installing that tomorrow jus. Last thing on the list is install new bunk boards on the trailer and install some keel rollers that it never had. Single axel trailer with what appears to be the original tires 8 ply 2450lb load rating will probably have to replace as they have a lot of cracks in the the side walls real shame as there is virtually no tread wear, may use for awhile as the boat ramp is only a mile away. Would love to have a dual axel aluminum trailer but rebuild costs exceeded my estimates so it will have to wait
Will be posting up dated pictures

Very very long over due update the boat has been completed and in use have a 200 Yamaha on it. Boats has been fished 30 mile off shore no problems. Added a new twin axel trailer and front deck hatch for cabin ventilation.
