Re: Stejcraft 4.1m Half cab. Gut & rebuild
On with the glass.
My step Dad who was my second pair of hands for a few days took these photo's with an old 1.3mp digital cam of mine, in low light you cant get a good pic, I left my good camera at a mates place, so there pritty blurry unfortunately.
After a bit of thought about the strakes and the width of the fibreglass and that I cant cut one piece to cover the entire area, as well as the fact that you cant manipulate/ or stretch woven rovings in to corners like strakes etc. At least i didnt want to get into trouble trying while resin is inevitably curing.
I came up with this method of lay ups in the transom. I'm pritty happy with the way it all went actually.
Layers are: as first piece (left pic), one layer of mat that covers the transome, 50cm up the sides that fold down to over the first strake.
Second piece, a square piece with a cut from centre of edge to centre of square that covers the keel area and folds up the transom, the cut overlaps over the bungholes.
I wieghed the resin I had left and figured it was enough for the smaller keel section of the Roven Woven piece,
its 600 gram woven, and its tricky to handle stuff in sticky situations I'm glad I had a second pair of hands when I was doing this. It all turned out nice tho.
The next layer that went on the next morning was Matt over the Roven section prior to a full layer of Roven that covers the sides and transome.
