On with the glass.

My step Dad who was my second pair of hands for a few days took these photo's with an old 1.3mp digital cam of mine, in low light you cant get a good pic, I left my good camera at a mates place, so there pritty blurry unfortunately.
After a bit of thought about the strakes and the width of the fibreglass and that I cant cut one piece to cover the entire area, as well as the fact that you cant manipulate/ or stretch woven rovings in to corners like strakes etc. At least i didnt want to get into trouble trying while resin is inevitably curing.
I came up with this method of lay ups in the transom. I'm pritty happy with the way it all went actually.

Layers are: as first piece (left pic), one layer of mat that covers the transome, 50cm up the sides that fold down to over the first strake.
Second piece, a square piece with a cut from centre of edge to centre of square that covers the keel area and folds up the transom, the cut overlaps over the bungholes.

I wieghed the resin I had left and figured it was enough for the smaller keel section of the Roven Woven piece,
its 600 gram woven, and its tricky to handle stuff in sticky situations I'm glad I had a second pair of hands when I was doing this. It all turned out nice tho.

The next layer that went on the next morning was Matt over the Roven section prior to a full layer of Roven that covers the sides and transome.

I then reinforced the corners for piece of mind with a one whole corner peice and then some strips in the corners to add body to where you squash the glass into the corners where it might get a bit thin, and where you want the strength the most in my way of thinking.

And iTS DONE!, well the transom at least, and then trim off the edges, and then glass the hull, and then stringers, the floor, and then top comes off, and then........flip hull.........and then...............

Aussiefishn,

Man, that sure is some nice work your doing. Really made some progress in the last few months! And your glass work is outstanding.

I see you were doing glass work inside the house. I'm assuming you are not married, right? :D

Did you get your password reset on shareaproject? They have been pretty good about return my email request, although for some reason I find them in the junk mail folder.

Are you going to make any layout or design changes?

Keep on posting.

Thanks Mark, and by the way thats impressive work on building the cabin you,ve done, very interesting.

Yep, I'm single haha, it can defenately has its advantages. Thats the rumpas room. I can close off the doors to the rest of the house and open up doors and windows to well ventilate. That was just for the stringers tho, and drying the ply.

I've re tried contacting Shareproject but there not getting back to me. I check the junk mail too. Maybe there on hollidays.

I havent come to any desire to change the original design as yet. I liked it the way it was. But there's moments when i just stand staring into the boat, looking, thinking so maybe a penny will drop, or a light bulb will flash on and something will come to me.:D

The only things I've done different are things they didnt do right in the original build. Like sculptured the transom to fit snug in the corner/edges, and built it so the wood reaches the top so I can totally glass it over neatly.

I'll have a reinforce layer in the floor where the seats will go, or where you stand while driving etc. Havent decided on seats yet, I had ones that stood on a pole and folded to the side out of the way. I like that idea, and in the past I rarely used the seats, so I dont want to build permanant fixed seats, I like that space to be free, and I prefer to drive standing.

But changes to original design are defenately options to be thought about carefully before rebuilding too far.

Cheers,

Dan.
