Re: Stereo transom remote
No.. listen..
#3 wire.. the orange/white wire.. that is
optional and not required for operation. All that will do is dim the panel when you apply 12V+ to it. This is commonly tied into your nav light switch so that at night when your running lights are on, the panel dims. You don't need to hook it up if you don't want to.
#2 red wire.. this is going to be the wire of "concern" here since this is the trigger wire to turn on the remote. Since you have the stereo wired to be on independent of the ignition, you're going to have to use the trigger wire from the deck in order to turn that remote panel off and on. Normally, that would be connected to your switched ignition power.. but in this case, that won't work.
Coming out of your head unit, there is a blue wire with a white stripe. This is the 12V+ trigger wire that activates when the deck is turned on. Typically, you connect this wire to any external amplifiers/etc as the trigger that the deck is on which in turn triggers the accessory. Make sense?
So, if you would like that panel to be in sync with the deck and turn on and off only when the deck turns on and off, this is the wire that you're going to have to use to power it. Typically, this is not used as a source of high current.. but in this case you should be fine being as that the remote draws a very minute amount of power.
