Just finished my 86 Seville with new flooring, stringers, transom and rebuilt outdrive. Went to the lake last Thursday for the test run. Ran great. Top speed around 34 then cruised the lake for 2hrs. around 25. no leaks of water or oil. Now I need a stern light. There was none on the boat when I bought it so don't know what to look for. Can anyone tell me what the SearRay Seville stern light looked like or what to replace it with? thanks

Re: Stern Light

If it has a motor and you run it after dark it needs a stern light. It is also the anchor light.

Re: Stern Light

Look for a socket in the starboard side gunwale near the stern. It should have a rubber or plastic cover. That's where the all-around light plugs in.

TRUE, if you're using the proper terminology. Boats more than 12 meters require a white "masthead light" (showing 225? forward) in combination with a white "stern light" (showing 135? aft). Together, these provide a white light showing 360?. For smaller boats less than 12 meters, a single 360? "all-around white light" substitutes for the masthead light and the stern light, so technically speaking, an 18 1/2' boat does not need a stern light.

The sternlight is not the anchor light. They are completely different lights. On smaller power-driven vessels the masthead light and sternlight are allowed to be combined into an all-round white light. This can also be the anchor light.

The light is what is seen by other vessels. You do not install a light. You install a lamp. You are probably looking for a lamp that can be used as a white all-round light. If you are actually looking for a lamp for a sternlight, you are looking for something quite different. Please let us know what lamp you are really asking about.

Re: Stern Light

Now if I knew what lamp (light ) I was looking for I'd just go ahead and order one. As stated in my first thread the boat had nothing. There is no place on the stern to plug one in and no 12 volt wiring back there that I can see. I could buy one of those round stern lights and wire it in to the center above the outdrive, but why wasn't one put there by the manufacture? There is a chrome cover slide over a hole on the starboard stern side but no wiring there. Even for an anchor light I'd need 12volts. So what am I missing?

Re: Stern Light

The most simple installation of navigation lights on a smaller boat is to use sidelights and an all-round light.

Does you boat have any navigation lamps at present? Does it have any sidelight lamps? Are the sidelight lamps separate red and green lamps or are they combined and carried at the bow?

Can you post a pic of the stern. The chrome cover slide you mentions sounds just like the place that an anchor light post would plug in, never mind about the wiring for now.

Does the chrome cover slide look anything like this? http://www.iboats.com/Attwood-ZAMAK-Angled-Base-for-Standard-Poles/dm/*******.115830040--**********.114319260--view_id.38609

Re: Stern Light

If you don't have the light base for the light aka the piece with the chrome cover, you can buy one. Or you can just buy a stern light and light base assembly at wal mart for 20 bucks. If you do have the base, see what the prong pattern is and buy a stern light with the same prong pattern.

Where are you located? I have an extra stern light that doesn't fit my boat and might fit yours... If you're anywhere near NJ PM me and we'll set something up.

Try Walmart believe it or not. I got a replacement for my cousins boat there and added one to another with the clip on ones they have. all are pretty sturdy..

Well on my boat when I turn on the "running" lights the port and starbord and the sterrn light come on. When I turn on the "anchor" light the stern light comes on. These are the only three lights that are on my boat.

That's the way it should be. The stern light is the all-around white required.

Re: Stern Light

I stopped at Walmart today and they have the same light I have on my boat.
It's universal, just drill holes for pos and neg and 2 more holes for mounting screws and your done.
I believe it was around $15
