The 78 gearcase wont fit on a 77 model as the linkage is totally different do to the 78 is a mechanical shift and the 77 is hydo-assisted...shift rod is different, shifting length is different,linkage on block is different...

thanks, got the 78 tore down cylinder walls are good , so ill just replace the pistons, rings, and all gaskets. the water pump and thermostates will get replased too.

You would have to put the next size pistons and rings in for sure, it wouldn't be standard bore anymore.
