Re: Still can't get the lifter out.

That I have not though of. But then I haven’t though much of anything. If it weren’t for this board and all the responses I’ve received I would still be at square 1. Come to find out a member, kenimpzoom, lives but a couple miles from the marina where I keep the boat and has volunteered to come down this week end to set me straight once and for all. I can get a socket to the bolt so it would seem I should be able to get the Dremel down too. That and a mirror should do the trick. A couple of other suggestions were to pull one or the other of the engines to get to the bolt, but with your suggestion that might be avoided. That is one suggestion that I don’t even want to think about, the engine pull that is, however what must be done must be done.

Well here's another thought for you..

Can you break that engine loose from it's engine mounts, and JACK IT UP and 'over' a little to one side?

Yup, you'll have to pull the outdrive and disconnect some stuff but it's better than having to yank the engine clear out of the boat.

It’s V-drive inboards. I have that dremel with an 18” flex drive. I’m just sure with that and a mirror and lots of grinding wheels that bolt is history. I’ll know tomorrow if I can remove the other manifold in case that is the route I must go. Before I attempt any engine pulling or jacking I’ll have to have a nice long talk with Jack. Daniels that is. :D

Hello scamper:)
wow that bolt is a kicker. you may also try to drive a 8 point 3/8 socket on the rusty head. make sure all the bolts on the other manifold will come out before removing all of them or you will have 2 manifolds with bolts to cut. me and jack have been fishing partners for a while.
jack cant navigate and budwieser cant fix anything. we try sometimes though:) :) .
Good luck and let us know if the boat gods smile tomorrow. or if the fickle finger of fate frogs you again.

What about those trick sockets you see on TV that claim they can remove any stripped socket? The socket has a bunch of little needles on springs that shape themselves to the shape of the stripped bolt head. I have never used one, but for $20 bucks and trip to the hardware store might be a good try also.

Re: Still can't get the lifter out.

The bolt is in a little recess that the socket has to go into and over the bolt. The recess is just wide enough to allow a socket to bottom out on the bolt. Although this is not the place to post the following I would like to say I will probably not post anymore this week, as this is the first anniversary of my wife’s death on October 17th 2002. This year has been really though but it seems this particular week is really gut wrenching. That stuck lifter allowed me to find this site and a bunch of great people that has in these passed few weeks allowed a little diversity in my life. If you have any more ideas on that lifter or now manifold please continue to help.
Thanks to all.

Thanks kenimpzoom. Got the head off that puppy this morning with the mirror and dremel. Working on that end one with the dremel. All goes well should be out before noon tomorrow. Lot of work just to get the valve cover off.
