Talk about a sorry son of a @@@@@.

I went fishing all night Thursday.

When I was coming into the dock, at around 4:30 am. Because a storm was moving in .

I saw a vehicles tail lights going up through the woods at launch area.

I didn't think too much of it.

Until I got to my truck, and saw the trailer was GONE ! !

They had cut my lock, and took it away.

I cant believe, how people could be so DIRTY ! !

I had to go across bay, to a marina, and call a friend, to take me to my truck.

I bought a trailer used, to replace mine .

No where near as nice . And requiring lights , jack , etc. etc.

Everything was new on other one, I rewired and put new jack on it .

It doesn't look good, for ever seeing mine again.

I was told they steal them, and convert to flat bed trailers etc.

I'm still so P'oed , I cant see straight.

Anyway , make sure yours is secured , though I thought mine was.

On top of everything, I forgot to pay, my insurance on May 5th. So no help there.

KYHunter

Like to get ahold of them just once. Some people are to just too stupid or lazy to ever make anything of there lives by doing things the right way. They have to feed off the good fortune of others who have worked for what they have... POS in my mind................

people who steal need their hands cut off so they can't do it again.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

I usually park my truck/boat across the street from my house - easier to leave it there until ready to bring it in, etc. Found two kids rummaging thru my stuff, in the middle the day!!! One ran, but I got the one who had my digital camcorder in his hand. So I slapped the p#ss outta him and called the cops.

I guess it's ok to beat someone half sensless if you catch them during the commission of a felony.

God, I love our legal system!!!

I feel for you... but what else can you do? You said they cut your lock! What else is left? Take all the wheels off? Suspend it from a branch in a tree?

Anyone with a half-decent bolt cutter will go through a chain/lock in no time. There is no answer to the kind of low life that will stoop that low. Locks only keep an honest person honest.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

I thank you all for your comments.

Its not so much the trailer loss, as the idea of leaving someone stranded.

I wasn't going to leave my boat at dock to try to find a trailer, as it would have been gone too.

I am firmly for the lopping off of hands for theft . ( at the least)

They do that in foreign countries, and from what I understand . Theres very little theft .

I think on the repeat offense , they kill the thieves.

BRAVO !!! To them !!!

Around here its a little slap on the wrist.

Thanks again,

KYHunter

I feel for ya. Someone stole the prop off of our pontoon boat a while back while it was hanging in the lift. So much for a weekend on the water. Idiot. He took the cheap aluminum prop off the barge and not the 400 dollar stainless steel one off the bass boat hanging next to it, same engine on both, 70hp Johnson. Haha. I love stupid criminals.

Jerks. A few years back some butt-crack stole my buddies Alpha drive off his boat while they were camping... ss prop and all. That certainly ruined their weekend.

Where were you boating? I haven't heard of such a thing before. I guess here in the redneck area someone would end up shot for doing that.

I have a feeind that had that happen. Talk about a dirty deed. Trailers can be replaced, the stranded part irritates me to no end.

Tough brake man. I usually back the trailer to a curb or something so if someone wanted to take my trailer they would have to move my truck first.

Try one of the wheel locks.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

Sloopy, not sure how that would stop someone. An empty trailer can easily be lifted over a curb, and if there is nothing parked next to you, once the trailer is disconnected at the coupler the front of the trailer has plenty of room to swing around the back of the truck......even if there wasnt its easy to lift the tongue high enough to make room...............Not tryin to knock ya, just curious how you do it. I can't picture a way to park a trailer and have it be blocked in, unless there are walls on the 3 non truck sides.

KY, what type of lock were you using. Standard Master lock type, or an actual coupler lock? I ask because with a couple lock, the shank/bolt is inside the coupler and cant be cut with bolt cutters.

Sorry to hear about the robbery though......some people are just sick.

My cousin in Atlanta, GA said that there were trailers stolen all the time from the boat ramps around there. He had a huge chain welded to his trailer that he would pass through the frame of his truck that he could lock down. He fiquered if he made it hard for them to steal his trailer they would go on to someone else's.

I have found that around here the ramp I worry about most is isolated and not lighted I back it down the inlince toward lake with Jeep still on gravel lot if someone disconnect trailer they better have plenty of help to move to other vehicle unless they are 4wd too. may have to winch my trailer up but beats no trailer at all
;) Of Coarse here in LA I can use deadly force to protect me or my property, guess 200 yds give them an sporting chance......lol

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

Bunch of kids or stupid people went through the neighborhood lst night and broke windows. We keep our van na dtruck in the garage just for that reason. I was lucky not to be hit this time but both neighbors were and so were a lot of other people. I woulda been real upset if they had decided to bust the windows on the boat or steal the boat and trailer.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

I was putting in on KY . lake at wildcat creek.

And dont think for a minute that there aren't plenty of people around here .

That'd give a thief a lead enema, myself included.

The lock was a coupler lock, master brand.

It was a long pin with a tapered round end on it . It was hard to push in to the last click.

Which is where , it needed to be to make cutting difficult.

The odd part is , I had a brass type lock, that tightened with the key much better .

I thought , I had left it on my bumper and lost it.

Thinking about it now, Im not too sure .

I didn't come in too soon ,another time, and messed up the thieves.

I found one of the better locks today and bought it.

Really though , I haven't seen any , that could withstand a few good whacks, with a decent hammer.

I am going to start putting in at the marina/ resort, across the bay.

There are allways people staying in campers , and cabins there.

They have not had any real problems.

I just hate to pay the $5.00 launch fee.

When I should be able to use the one, we all pay for when we buy our licenses . And pay taxes.

The parking lot , at the one where my trailer was stolen. Is very well lighted.

Only problem is, its at the bottom of a hollow.

Theres really nothing you can back up against , or chain to .

Thanks for the replies.

KYHunter

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

A $5 launch fee is standard around here......sometimes even more. Can you check to see if you can be a season pass? Lots of places around here do that. Some are by lake, others are county wide. Here it is usually 30-35$, which is worth it if you launch enough.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

Not good loosing yor trailer bloke. The ramp I use backs onto a police academy which helps.

Ive done a few things to make it hard for theives to steal my trailer and a few I will mention here.
I made a system to tension the brake cables which locks the brakes on other than from the hitch.
I lock the trailer chains onto the tow bar with a good lock and am in the process of replacing the chains with high tencile chain to make it harder to cut.
I will be adding a wheel lock after reading your post because not only is the trailer is worth around $5000, the drama involved in getting the boat home is the worst part.
End of the day though it just pays to insure everything.

Tads
