If these jerks were caught chances are they have been arrested multiple times for different things.... that is what really frosts me is in the rare case they catch someone their rap sheets are as long as your arm. If they would put these people out breaking rocks in the sun there would be much less crime!

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

The other day I was headed to the boat ramp and there were some kids playing basketball in the street. They moved out of the way for us to pass and I waved to say "thanks". My friend's daughter was with us and she was holding her dog. One of the kids (probably 12-14 yr old) shouts out "I'm gonna steal your boat AND your dog". That remark in my day would have landed me an @$$ whipping like you wouldn't believe; whether the kid was saying it to be obnoxious or not to me is beside the point, that is what was in his head. Not respect for adults, other people's property, or themselves. It is something that is in the back of my head now because we have had numerous things stolen from our back yard. We live in a nice neighborhood, but that obviously doesn't count for much these days. I grew up in Franklin TN (just outside of Nashville) we could have gone out of town for a week and left the keys in every vehicle on the property and everything would have been just as we left it.

It really gets me when I find out that something that I worked hard for has been taken by some lazy thoughtless b@$t@rd. I think if they are caught, the victim should be given 3 free shots with a Louisville Slugger. That might give people a reason to think twice before taking something that does not belong to them.

Originally posted by P.O.N.Y.:
Sloopy, not sure how that would stop someone. An empty trailer can easily be lifted over a curb, and if there is nothing parked next to you, once the trailer is disconnected at the coupler the front of the trailer has plenty of room to swing around the back of the truck......even if there wasnt its easy to lift the tongue high enough to make room...............Not tryin to knock ya, just curious how you do it. I can't picture a way to park a trailer and have it be blocked in, unless there are walls on the 3 non truck sides.
You can still steel it, but it will be a lot harder and people will notice.

As for the wheel lock, I have seen people use a big piece of chain with a high quality master lock, just run it through one of the wheels and lock it to the trailer frame. Try to hide it out of site so they can not see it. Most of these crimes are grab and go, if it will end up taking them more then five minutes they will not bother. Remember the people steeling these things know what they are doing, they wont make themselves seen.

LOL, That'd be great, as far as the road work.

As long as they don't have, 3-4 watchers, for every worker !!!

At least thats how it is here .

One guy, does all the work , while the rest, discuss it.

LMAO ! ! !

KYHunter

studlymandingo, I live in Spring Hill and Work in Brentwood. I drive through Franklin twice each day. You can't get away with leaving things unlocked here anymore if you want it to be there when you get back.

Franklin has gotten more upscale over the last few years. Spring hill was a torn of 800 15 years ago. The census this year was 20,000. The expectation is 40,000 in the next 5-7 years. As Franklin becomes more expensive, folks move this way. Franklin has grown just as fast. When we grew up, you knew your neighbors. In 1.5 years since we moved back, I've met 3....

I was going to say the same thing. Franklin has changed dramatically in the last decade or so.

Good to know Jason and Rip...I still own 40 acres in Arrington! Shame that neighbors are not as neighborly though, we knew everyone in the community when I was growing up.

My home town was the same way. It still is for the most part though. Arrington is almost the area that time forgot. Few people left there though. I spent the last few years in Smyrna. That place has exploded with folks.

Re: Stole my trailer ! ! !

I have the solution for it all... My fishing boat is an aluminum boat on a homemade metal pipe frame trailer. The wheels are rusted and the lights and tag has more platic zip ties holding it together than the local home depot. My logic is, if I park next to a brand new trailer, who the heck is going to give my old thing a second look. LOL... not a reality, I know but I do feel for ya, espically being stranded. But I look at it like this, it happens and if it happens to me, I haven't lost much that I can't replace. And I have replaced many a rod and reels in parking lots and gas stations. Just part of "Good Luck"

at our local boat ramp we had a problem one year with stolen boat trailers but they didn't bother to even cut the locks they just unscrewed the trailer ball and then bolted it right to there bumper and drove away.

i am convinced if someone is determined to steal your trailer, they will! locks or no locks.

locks keep the honest people away.

In the pacific northwest, tweakers steal trailers for drug money. They cut them up and sell them for scrap.

Had a buddy who had his boat stolen-trailer and all. When he bought a new one he went straight to a welder and had the tongue of the trailer cut off, added a metal sleeve to attach the two pieces with grade eight bolts. You can still steal the boat, but now it is just easier to steal someone else?s. I just buy good insurance.

Always check your hitch before going anywhere. Around here they like to steal the pins out of the receiver hitches for kicks.
