Store with air in tires??

Once I actually block up the trailer( still holding out hope of another trip) should I leave the tires full, half full or flat or doesn't it matter?

I have never actually done it but it seems to make sense to only inflate them half way to reduce the stress on the tire, again, this is with the trailer blocked no load on the tires.

Am I thinking to much again?

....if your trailer came equipped with Factory Air, I certainly would not waste it!!! Besides, these cheap Chineesey aftermarket replacements just don't measure up to the original. As a side note, if you decide to bleed the factory air, try listing it on CL as NOS...some sucker will buy it!!!!!

There is where you can order your winter air. They also have a round tuit of you need one to help.

That seasonal air is "snake oil" and a waste of money! Also, don't buy the branded air from Tee-Nee, Caulkins, E Z loader, etc. I only use the Wal-Mart brand Supertech air. Cheaper and just as good.


Seriously, if you have money to burn and if it makes you feel better, you can fill them with nitrogen instead of air to help prevent oxygen deterioration of the interior rubber. Just a thought--I never do it.

Don't worry too much, just flip em' inside out so the winter doesn't oxydize the sidewalls. (NEXT!!!!)

I call BS. He needs to leave one half full of air and the other half empty. That is the only way to have a well rounded set of tires on your trailer.

Seriously, consider filling the tires with Helium, or if you're a bit more daring, Hydrogen. The tires will be much lighter and won't sag under their own weight, thereby saving much wear.

I store the excess air in a spare tire so I never have to go buy air for the Escort trailer. Escort is out of business and the cost of air for it is prohibitive.

On a more serious note, the best you could do is probably just to cover the tires or take them off and store them inside out of the sunlight. I wouldn't worry about the air pressure. I'd want to keep them inflated and sealed tight to the rim in the bead area. Chances are they will lose some air naturally come spring time anyhow. Give the wheel studs or lugs a coat of grease to prevent rust. If your trailer has brakes and it's going to sit for a real long time, I'd cover the drums so they don't rust too badly while sitting. I just park my trailers up on concrete blocks, slightly on the tires, but also on jack stands front and back. The tires being on blocks keeps dirt from splashing up on the hubs and wheels when it rains. My two best boats come inside for the winter.

The only dumb questions are the ones that never get asked....

Personally, I store my trailer without blocking it up. The tires are made to hold weight. And I over inflate mine by 10 psi (if 50 is max, then I put 60 in them). They will lose some air over the winter months and I don't want it to sit on under-inflated tires. Right or wrong, that's how I do it.

Keep maximum psi per the sidewall in your trailer tires. Cover them if they get full sun.

If you take the air out, store it by the plug so you won't forget to put both back in come spring......
