Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

i just looked through the pictures again. I've done a fair amount of glass work. And the craftsmanship in that boat is crap. I could get a better bond by slinging it with my hands then sitting on it all while it hardens.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

I just hope that the owner is telling the truth about this whole thing. I've seen other types of things where the owner said "it just did that all by itself" and come to find out that they did not put oil in the gas and are trying to get a refund for it even though its a 2 stroke. Im just saying eather they guy is not being totally honest with us or the BPS/ boat manufacturer is totally totally TOTALLY not steping up to the plate. If what this guy says is true then this is terrible treat this guy this way and his boat!! I hope he stays with us the whole way through this thing. And i hope that the boat company man's up to it and just takes care of this guy!!! Who knows if he gets a lawyer he will most likely get a upgrade, upgraded motor, new trailer and a bunch of cash back also for all this taking so long and the mental anguish this is causing him! Thats what i would go for!! I hope he keeps us posted as tomorrow is monday and the begining of a new week.

Why would you doubt him? Did you read this whole thread? Have you followed any of the links to Tahoe Boats and all the Customer complaints that are recorded in these posts and various links? Obviously you didn't... to even raise up such a question. Did you look at the pictures of the crappy workmanship? I did a research today just for my own satisfaction. Only Bayliner has more complaints in the four different Manufacturers of boats that I checked than Tahoe. I took into consideration length of Manufacturing and also I thought about the number of boats that manufacturer has sold.

I believe him im just saying that if what he is saying is true then this is the crappiest customer service that ive ever seen. Im just saying what is taking them so long to give the man a new boat! If he is not wrong then they owe him more than just a hull. They owe him a new motor trailer and some cash in return as well. Read my whole post before you quote me and say that i am doubting the guy.

wemer, how does it not make sence to pay the guy for the wait of not having his boat? If it was you would you like to pay that kind of money for a boat and then not be able to use it for so long? If it was a car would you wait this long not to use it to get back and fourth? I just think you last 2 guys did not read my whole post.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

This is progressing about as fast as I thought it might. Even if they were going to refund his money or give him a new boat, that decision would not have been made yet. This type of claim needs to work it's way up through the system, anybody (and there won't be many people) in the company that has the authority to make a $30,000 decision will need all the facts before something is done one way or the other. So far we know that the dealer looked at it and possibly one person from Tracker and then more pics were sent to an engineer. I know I can't tell why or how it failed from the few pics we've seen, so I don't know how anybody else here can either. I would need to inspect it myself to look at things not pictured and then see how it was supposed to have been made to tell if something was left out, unfinished or weak to tell what may have happened.
We don't now what the warranty says, or how long it covers the hull and typically loss of use won't be covered. I'm not saying either party is right or wrong, I just know it will take much longer for a decision to be made.

The wait is killing me.

And the OP too I'm sure
This says one thing too me.
HAND LAID GLASS.
When you go to purchase, make sure the boat is built this way.
Guarantee of perfection....NO, but not a money saving process either!

I,m not a builder, fiberglass man, or repairer.
Was employed by a chemical plant that had a fiberglass dept.
Repaired glass pipes etc.
They puchased a chop mat gun, and the shop man LOVED it.
Why? It was easy.
In checking out his work I learned he could set the chop rate, resin flow.
to many variables.

Anyhow, I,m sorry for the troubles your having.
Please keep us posted.

You have a right to expect a good product,
after all don,t they advertise a 5 YEAR HULL WARRENTY.
Suggesting Sound construction.

Get the lawer, one thats not nice,(to Tahoe)
They will try to wiggle out as much as possible.

After all, thats how they built that POS in the first place.

PS, dont comment on chop mat being a good const. method
Im sure it can be. but not in this case

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

baineyg has heard nothing directly from the manu? and the dealer is saying to wait on the surveyor's report? sweeeet corporate america.

how stupid would you have to be to accept this boat back 'fixed'?

i'd be hiring my own surveyor too. insurance can be helpful but once they determine they don't have to pay, they kinda lose their motivation.

i'd want someone watching my interests. they will try to get you to keep the boat, they don't want it and have already sold it once. why would they take it back to try to sell again?

where is the boat now?

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

Well

There is a new show on the national geographic channel

http://channel.nationalgeographic.c...?category=14295&channel=1806&nav=NGC-Main_DL1

Lets just say there is a LOT MORE chopper gun used in a SEARAY hull than you would believe  and it seems to work for them

Well, the robots in the video are spraying gel coat, not chopped strand, which is better done by a robot than a human... like they say, more consistent.

But I wouldn't buy a modern Sea Ray anyway... I only like the older ones.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

IF :D you watch the SECOND video(speedboat factory at 2.0 minutes) the chop is the first thing done after gelcoat AND it is done buy hand and rolled out very carefully for air pockets THEN they use mat in select areas

I watched it live on channel 168 and was shocked at how littel mat was used in the layup

I dunno why I did't see that the first time around. It's hard to find the rest of the video on that site.

I'm not surprised the chopper gun comes out after the gelcoat. I think most of the hulls today are made that way.

Also, I personally don't care whether they use mat or not... the chopper gun produces essentially the same stuff with a trained operator. But, is there a place in the video where they apply roving to the inside for strength, and attach the stringers?

I also stand by my statement about Sea Ray... I wouldn't buy one of their boats new anyway.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

They say the show is going to broadcast again on march 20 and 27

There was NOT a lot of mat in the show BUT the wood free stringer system seemed nice

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

I found that interesting too, could it be true that there is really less 'glass in modern boats, as a surveyor by the name of David Pascoe has talked about on his website?
