Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

You are right.
I wonder if company size has anything to do with the communication?

Could be but I think it's TAHOE. They could communicate with their cutomers. They're just a cheap boat with a know problem that they choose to ignore. Too many Tahoes with cracks in the Fiberglass. Every boating forum has reports on Tahoes and cracks in the fiberglass all reading about the same. Maybe they will fix this problem permanently this time. It may not be Tahoes fault. It may be the material supplier but it's still their product. There are far too many cracking problems to just keep ignoring and building and selling more boats. I just got the Overton's Master catalog today and guess what's on the front cover? They are selling. Tahoe boats and Overton's is now owned by Cabella's. Another Big box store.

Well we shall soon find out the outcome of baineyG's boat. I guess it all boils down to if you have a good boat. You had better keep it.

One of the things that disappoints me the most about this situation is that I have a 32 year old fiberglass boat (Glassmaster) that has none of these problems. It was built well and is still safely in service. If fiberglass boats could be built with this kind of longevity, using much less sophisticated construction technology in those days, there is just no excuse for a recently built boat to come apart in a year.

...hmm Gander Mountain just bought Overton from Parker Overton yesterday. Tahoe is still part of the Tracker Marine family. TM uses Bass Pro (who just happens to own TM) as a heavy outlet but independents can also sell Tahoe models. Did you see or read somewhere these two got sold to Cabela's?

I Couldn't find where I read it. It wasn't yesterday I read it. It was a couple months ago. Maybe it was Gander Mountain that bought Overtons. I thought it was in the Cabela's catalog but I just checked and couldn't find it in any of the catalogs. Sorry! I get all three catalogs. The point is. One swallowed the other and Overtons no longer is. They are just part of another Big Box Store now selling whatever is the cheapest and fastest sellers. US Boat, West Marine, Defender and Overtons were the four main Marine supply stores. West Marine bought US Boat, the marine store only not to confuse you. I hope I Boats doesn't sell out there Marine Store. Competition is good for the consumers as well as suppliers. Again I apologize if I was wrong. It always seems to me that as the smaller companies get swallowed up by the bigger companies. IE: Manufacturers. Quality always goes down as production speeds increases. This seems to be Tahoe's pattern of doing business, but I guess anybody can become a seller/ dealer. This is just my opinion which isn't worth much, but it's free.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

Hello Fellow Boaters,
I called the Tracker factory to see if they were still on schedule for my boat being repaired the second week of May. They said it'll be done next week! The warranty department didn't know if it was replaced but with this amount of time, it was no doubt just repaired.
Hopefully getting it back to Vegas won't take as long as it took to get there. Heck, I'll probably take a day off work just to catch up on some lost boating when it does arrive. Hopefully it's still yellow or my cover/bimini will look aweful funny. Anyway - that's the current status.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it was replaced simply because I would think that it would be easier and faster to do.

From a liability standpoint, I would also think they most likely just replaced the hull. I could only imagine what the settlement would be like if a repair failed and someone got hurt.

Jay , you and Realfishin both have good points that I would have to agree on.
We shall know soon. Hopefully they will make it right and this matter will finally be brought to a satisfactory conclusion.

You are much more patient than I, because for me, there wouldn't be a satisfactory conclusion they could come to after making me wait 3 months just to look at it. At this point, it would take a whole new boat at minimum (new everything, not just hull) to satisfy me.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

I think I would probably be OK with a replaced hull but absolutely would not accept a repaired hull. I think I would also be very annoyed with a company that won't say what it is doing. I would want to know immediately after they inspected the boat what their intentions were and if it were to repair they would get a letter from my attorney in short order.

At any rate, unless I soon read something quite different than what has been posted thus far, you can be sure that I will never buy a Tahoe boat.

It does sound like they replaced the hull. Repairing it would cost too much in labor and materials and is not a guarantee that it might happen again. They probably wouldn't want to have the same issue reappear with this boat and is better to just replace. Look for any identifying marks when you surrendered the boat and when you get it back, then you'll you know if they repaired or replaced.

If the hull is replaced, wouldn't there be a different HIN? And, if so, would there be new DMV registration fees and whatnot?

I would think the manufacturer would pull the plate off the old hull and put it on the new one.
A wash.

Re: Stringer Pushing through bottom of Boat?

It would be nice if it were that simple but the HIN on Tahoe's are casted/stamped into the hull. The dealer will have to file new paper work to DMV.

I see, then Baineyg will know pretty quick if he gets a repair or a replacement.
