Re: Stuck on the lake now! SOS!!

Alright guys heres the update...I looked closer and saw there was only 1 black/yellow wire. I disconnected it from the powerpack and after about another 2hours of sitting I cranked it up fine and had to kill it manually like you all were saying... Ok so does that mean now that I have a bad powerpack or is my powerpack fine and I have a bad key switch?
And by key switch what exactly are you referring to...where the key turns on the controls?? (Excuse my ignorance!)
I got off the lake at about 7 due to some nice guys towing us and it was at home when it finally cranked so yes thanks for the help and now I'm ready to go shopping for whatever part it is I need now!!

Good to hear that you made it off the water OK... Yes, the key switch is the one that you use to start the motor and shut it off (with the key). It's good news that disconnecting the wire from the powerpack brought spark back. That means it's either a bad key switch, or more likely, cracked/broken/uninsulated wiring somewhere between it and the powerpack (like I said before)... that's cheaper than a new powerpack.

If yours doesn't have that, then the next thing I'd look for is for cracked/broken wires either on the engine, or between the engine and the control box. The wires can get brittle where they flex from when the motor is tilted up and down. If the insulation is cracked, the ignition could get shorted out (basically doing the same thing as when you normally turn the key off).

good luck.. and if you find a spot where the insulation or wiring broke, I'd recommend replacing that section of wiring. If you just splice it together, it will work for a while, but probably break again if the wire/insulation is brittle.

Re: Stuck on the lake now! SOS!!

Hey guys just wanted to give you the final update....I ended up replacing the keyswitch which allowed the boat to fire up again. So I thought that was the fix I was looking for. Then on the lake about 5 minutes out it cut off immediately again...at that point I had the extra powerpack onboard incase it did that again. So I replaced it on the water and it ran great the rest of the weekend so we are all good for now. Thanks for all the help guys!!! Yall are lifesavers!
