Submersible trailer lights?

I understand the lights on my boat trailer need to be submersible so I can dunk the back of my trailer and not worry about electrical problems yes? So I bought some from my local big box store. Blazer is the brand name. I noticed that there is a hole on the bottom of the light where the wires run through... water still flows through holes right? So I figured since there's no hole in the top, water won't get in. I dunked the light in a big bowl of water and some still got in. Is this a problem?

submersible lights are submersible BECAUSE they have a drain hole and sometimes they are made with metals that are less prone to corrosion.... water proof lights are also submersible but yours are not water proof..... you need to unplug your lights befor launching when they are not waterproof.... then let them drain before plugging back in

You could always install them up high, above the water.

If you want submersible lights,install LEDs they work under water as good as above water.

^^^^^ Couldn't have said it any better!!! LEDs are the way to go if you're rebuilding your lights.

On most LED submersible lights, the circuit boards and LED lamps are sealed inside the light. Water gets into the light but cannot get to the board & lamps.

Submersible = drain hole
Waterproof = no water get's in to begin with. But eventually they will leak.
LED's are the best replacement and high mounting is the ultimate.
My 2 cents.

Okay... Thanks guys. So if water does get to the bulbs / wires, what's the worst that could happen? Blow a bulb? Or is my fuze panel gonna start smoking?

worst i have ever seen is a blown bulb. i have never had a light just quit working completely because it got wet.

I always unplug when launching or recovering. Plug in when ready to go again. Never had a blown bulb yet because of it.
Some folk leave them plugged in all the time and report no issues.
You pay's yer money and you take your choice !!!

it isn't "if" water gets to it..... they will fill with water EVERY time you put them under..... disconnect the light plug before you launch and plug it back in after you have strapped down the boat to leave..... If you forget to disconnect you have a good chance of popping the bulb but no you shouldn't have any other problems... in fresh water any way.... dunno about salt water.... not sure if there could be enough current draw to blow a fuse there or not

Biggest issue I ever had with submersible lights was getting the hot bulb wet and shattering it. If you unplug them do so as soon as you can before you ready the rest of your boat for the ramp. Give them time to cool.

I switched to LED's on my new trailer. After seeing how well they worked in the winter on my sled trailer I knew they would be worth the $$ for the boat trailer. Plus my original lights were very hard to see unless it was dark or you were close and directly behind my trailer.
