Put a new roof on my bro's garage last weekend and was amazed at the quality of the building materials. We bought the mid-priced everything.

The tar paper ripped when walked on, in 75 degree weather and the shingles deformed when walked on. We used plenty of staples on the paper and it tore no less than 10 times almost landing me on my head.. I am no small guy, 6'4" and 250lbs but the stuff was pathetic. I talked to a friend who moonlights doing roofs and he said this was par for the course. He wrote a letter to the mfg stating that he would no longer use this product based on his similiar experience. (Months earlier)

Is this common or am I just seeing an isolated experience? The roof came out just fine but took twice as long as it should have to put on. Beyond that, this stuff is downright dangerous.
