Re: Suction Cup Reccomendation Needed

Trying to carry a canoe on a motorcycle and using your head as a connection point has me laughing my head off!!! You must be kidding.

BUT, if you are serious, and you want to avoid the traditional trailer, then how about a side car that is just for cargo. A simple frame that lets the canoe ride parallel to the motorcycle, and low to the ground, would probably be 100% safer than any design that requires your head to be part of the mounting system. Plus the third wheel gives a little better stability to side winds that can make a trailer wag the motorcycle.

That's too cumbersome & bulky, too much equipment to deal with. My design is much better, cheaper, lightweight, less bulky. You will have one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments when it is finally revealed.

I wonder if a passenger rode in the kayak? Is riding in a kayak strapped to a motorcycle legal?

Neat setup. Thats how I would do it.

My design is much better
if ya ain't gonna let us in on this new design. i think pretty much everyone is mostly worried about your safety using your head as a mounting point for a sail...... w/o seeing this new design. it's hard to imagin a canoe or kayak mounted to your head that wouldn't be suicidal....

All the negativity was never expected but to the negative nellys remember the people scoffed at Noah also when he built the arc.

I am hoping to be advertising my design right here on iboats one day and am surprised no one has invented this before now.

Geo

Yes, but Noah did not try to attach the arc to his head....;)

I hope that you are able to tell the difference between negativity and a real concern for someone who sounds like they are going to do something that is really....ummmm....ill-advised.
There is a wealth of sober,second-opinions in here, usually gained from experience....and the scars to prove it. The folks who offer these comments invariably do so with the best of intentions.

If this is truly not just a joke, and you are seriously suggesting open-air, free-hauling, on the highway, a load that is at least partly attached to your head, and you have read all the dissenting opinions, well....God bless you and good luck.
If you really believe that even if this idea is patentable, that any regulatory body would allow the result to be marketed...God Bless you, and good luck.

it seems to me like it would be kinda difficult to turn your head to look around with a boat attached to it.

Most riders I know hate the weight of the helmet and the fatigue from it.
But maybe the kayak would lessen that weight at speed!

You wouldn't happen to be the guy that invented this?-

How about this suction cup?

Its 3 3/4" diameter, holds 50 lbs, and only costs $4.81

Go to mcmaster.com and search for "suction cup".

Without giving away potential "patent" secrets...... will this be mounted Parallel or Perpendicular? I you mount it Perpendicular you might need clearance lights.......

I'm getting the same vision as every one else.
I'm hoping if not betting we're all missing something here...hopefully.

I think what he is doing is mounting the kayak on a "stand" mounted on the back of the bike that is level with the top of his helmet. The kayak is balanced on the stand, and just the front of the kayak is attached to the helmet. That way he has no weight on his head.

No matter how its done, carrying a kayak or canoe on a motorcycle does have its physics issues.

Might be safer to design a motorcycle you can drive into the water and paddle.

Could be.
If anything is attached to the helmet, I want to see a pic of him leaning into a turn. I willing to give the benefit of the doubt before passing judgement. But I just have to see some pic at that the end of this tunnel.

The helmet would similar to a 5th wheel attachment...... think of the advantage when he "backs it down the ramp"...

I just can't see having anything affixed to his helmet, in the event of an accident the helmet could be transformed into a brain bucket, a simple drop like forgetting the kickstand or something dumb like that and you neck's tweeked.

I could see insurance companies having issues with anything attached to a motorcyclist's helmet. The DOT may not approve the device for on road use. There are more issues at hand besides the actual performance of the product.

Im still hoping this is a joke. I have ridden with a lightly packed Back pack on and my back and shoulder start to hurt after a few miles. I cant imagine riding with something strapped to my head.

This is a sweet helmet mounted automatically guided carrier design system. Official quality control testing to begin soon...only a few more bugs to work out.

With all due respect, this post should be moved to Stupid Human Tricks. Sorry, Geo, but I can't stop laughing! Has to be one of the funniest serious posts I've ever read on any forum. The image of a guy on a motorcycle with a yak suction cupped to his head going down the freeway is too much! Thanks ever so much for a great laugh!
