Super Sport Bow support and storage ideas...

I splashed my '71 Super Sport about 3 years ago so I guess it's "completed". Not really though as I have other modifications in mind. I would like some ideas from the starmada. The upper bow/gunnel support for the boat was a bugger to get out to replace the rotten face board with the faux wood sticker. I did not properly put a new/different support in place and the top sags and bounces. It is a little thing but one I would like to finish up. It would be great to know how others put a support in place without contortionist like body positions. I have some sheet aluminum and could cut and bend and put aluminum braces up there but I'm always open to ideas.

One other thought... boat storage in the transom and back gunnel area. It would be great to see or be directed to other rebuilds that have tackled this project. I have seen many nifty bow transformations but my wife would like to continue to have seating in the front of the boat rather than a casting deck.

Thanks for any direction you people can give.

Hey Otte - Good to see you back.

In front under the bow cover, did the support wood have thin foam between the cover and supports? On my closed bow, the foam disintegrated over the years and the cover is "spongy". I keep meaning to slip some new stuff in there.

For rear storage, could you take out the telephone pole (great idea back then) and build a bench seat with storage under the seat box?

How has the SS been working? Lotsa fun I hope!

Hey Otte great to see you back, the only way to properly replace the support for the front deck is to remove the aluminum deck itself. To do that you have to pull bow cap and the rubrail and its channel on both sides of the hull, not an easy undertaking.

Hey GA - good to be back. I've been checking in, on the down low, with the starmada peeps. The telephone pole bench has become obsolete as I "live" more in the boat. We are thinking alike on the bench seat and am looking for some pictorial support from those smarter than me.

The SS has be a great boat. Last summer was one of tinkering with the Evinrude 50. Cleaned and replaced gaskets and lines on the carbs along with linking them together. So she runs better and makes the time out much more enjoyable.

Wow - That sounds like a winter job when the Michigan water is hard. No wonder I was tied in knots when I took that sucker out back on a steamy, hot June day.

A couple of Starmadians have built some benches with storage in front of the splashwell. Can I remember who? Of course not.

Stick your head under the front with a flashlight and see if the supports are soft and giving. Like I said, some thin, foamy stuff cushions between the wood and AL. Could be an easy fix if the wood is good.

Good to hear you are enjoying her. That's what it's all about.

I will do some more checking on storage benches.
I took all the supports out to remove the rotten face board. The bow cap was so full of holes from an anchor winch the PO Installed up there I contemplated taking it off or covering it up with another price of aluminum sheeting.
