Survey- How many lakes in the U.S. have outlawed 2 stroke motors?

I was reading another thread and it was stated that "most places in the U.S. have outlawed the use of 2 stroke motors". Well I'm not ready to except that most places have outlawed them just yet but I think a survey would give us a better idea on just how bad it is out there in big-out-of-control government land. So here is the question. How many lakes that you have boated on has outlawed 2 stroke motors? We need facts here not opinions. If you know that your state, county or city has outlawed them then that would be OK in this survey also. All you Canadians are welcome to chime in too. The lake I boat on in Texas has not. The name of it is Canyon lake about half way between San Antonio and Austin.

I personally don't know of any river or lake in Georgia that has out-lawed any 2-cycle engines...

they certainly do make 2 strokes today ,I have one.2011 evinrude etec just as emission conpliant as any 4 stroke.as for 2 strokes being outlawed I believe its mostly a myth.some have curtailed carbed 2 strokes only ,Tahoe I believe is one if im wrong somebody will take me to task on that one im sure.,:joyous:

Just because you read something on the internet or especially a forum on the internet does not make it fact.. There are people that post on a forum with no clue what they are talking about.

There are no federal laws that outlaws 2 stroke motors on lakes. Might be a local law for a particular lake, but that's it. Just like the old Max HP limit i=of 10 hp. Now they have 9.9hp motors.

You can even manufacturer 2 strokes, they have to pass the EPA standards, but nothing saying they are outlawed.

All the answers are on the Interweb. 2 strokes are still being made, notably Mercury Optimax and Evinrude E-TEC. In fact Evinrude makes NO 4 strokes except 2.5 to 15 HP.. Check their websites.

Some states have, primarily California, have lake specific restrictions on older 2 strokes that don't meet current EPA emissions specs or in the case of California 2 strokes that don't meet current CARB specs.

Truth be know Evinrude does not make any 4 strokes. Tohatsu makes them and puts the Rude decal on them.

I'm not aware of any lakes or waterways in Michigan that have "banned" 2-strokes.

The National Park Service has restricted the use of carbed 2-stroke PWCs and states they intend to restrict all 2-strokes (including outboards) in the future.

As stated it really comes down to meeting certain emission standards not just whether an engine is 2-stroke or not. Currently there is a wide selection of 2-stroke outboards that meet the latest EPA standards. They are all direct injected due to the fact that seems to be the only way to meet the standards.

Mercury Optimax
Tohatsu TLDI
Yamaha HPDI

The only motor bans I have seen in Wisconsin, are hp restricted, and a few which have banned all internal combustion engines.
These are typically canoe paradise, or shallow spawning grounds.

Most of the restrictions on two stroke engines apply to "carbureted" versions.

I don't know if he bought it in the states(which he can) but there made in the states,Wisconsin I think.

Sorry, not so. Only old school carbed 2 strokes are not allowed EFI is fine. At least from the regulations they have posted.

No lakes in Minnesota as far as I know, plenty of ol' blue cloud motors running around yet! Still have my trusty old 77' 6hp rude' to remind me what outboards/snowmobiles use to smell like!

There are no lakes in Ontario that have banned two strokes. Or any in Canada that I am aware of. There are, of course, lakes that have "no motor" bans, Gould Lake is one that comes to mind. The only reference I could find is the UAE have banned two strokes, to take effect at the end of 2016.

Actually, the EPA C.A.R.B. rules applied to the manufacture of motors.
Many 2 strokes were manufactured and warehoused before the new emission standards went into effect.
I know several large boat companies were still selling carbed 2 strokes as late as 2009.
