So we just bought a new 22' Misty Harbor pontoon with a df140hp Suzuki outboard. During our 2 minute walk thru [yes 2 minutes] the mechanic informed us not to trim the motor up all the way as the motor will crush the wires. So i am unable to raise the lower end completely out of the water when tied to the dock. This is my first pontoon and out board, but this can't be normal is it? Also the sales rep said we should top out at about 35mph but barely get 25mph with 2 people.

Crush wires? Malarkey! That would have to explained to me and I doubt I would believe why. 35 MPH may be optimistic, but I don't know for sure.

Welcome aboard.

I would take it back and have them fix the wiring should not be a problem with trimming up I have a 20ft. with a 90 merc. and can cruise 24 mph all day with motor trimmed up to the right spot.

My 2021 Sylvan 21ft 90hp Yammy does 24-25 with me, wife and 3 kids.

You should be able to raise the motor full range of motion without interfering with anything, our dealer just informed me to keep an eye on the wires and make sure theres no binding or issues arising when we do it. I would raise it up, wiggle the wires, and repeat untill the wires get taught, and see which wires are too short. This is an issue the mechanics should have fixed before lettin ot out the door. (make sure motor is centered when lifting, mine doesnt seem to like to go up full left or right as that binds the steering cable.)

Speed wise, i would check your tach and make sure rpms are accurate, and call your dealer and see if they can swap your prop with a more appropriate one. My guess is you dont have enough prop. (beiing my nearly similar pontoon does 25mph with similar load, and only with 90hp)
I can see why you couldnt do at least 30mph or 35 in optimum conditions.

As soon as he said "dont raise the motor all the way up" i wouldnt have left the factory until it could.

Dealer: Enjoy your new Honda Accord. Oh, by the way, don't open the trunk all the way or It will pinch some wires and the engine might quit.
Customer: OK. Thanks for the warning. Can I have the keys now?

I as well own a 22’ pontoon with the Suzuki 140. 18 pitch mercury vengeance SS prop on mine. It will get 2 of us to 31 mph if lake is calm.
