First of all Thanks to all for all the helpful info. I have been reading the forums for about 5 weeks leaning every thing I can find, about Suzuki outboards it has been a big help.
Ok now for the questions I purchased a boat with a locked up 1984 Suzuki DT-140, I broke it down and what I have found is that #4 rod bearing is shattered but there seems to be no other damage that I can tell I have pics so if anyone sees something let me know. My questions are first of all what would cause this, second if there is no other damages what should I do just replace the rod bearings and rings or what? Also as you can see in my pics the rods can be removed from the crank. I was under the impression that the rods were pressed on to the crank but in my case thank god there not.

Pics

send more of the cly and piston skirts. looks like some water damage in the cyl. if so then remove the exhaust cover and inspect the divider plate and the lower crank seal. also send some good close ups of the rod journal. the normal failure cause is lack of oil or rust. either one usually takes out the crank. that crank can be repaired though.

by the pics I am not seeing much water damage. looks like a lubrication failure. carfully inspect the oil line check valves and reed nipples. looks like its a saltwater motor so carefully inspect all cooling system passages and the exhaust divider plate for pin holes. the crank is toast. its a rebuild it or replace it.
