Re: Suzuki GS 750 first bike! - Starter Trouble

I had an 83 gs750es, I think the clutch switch was what i replaced. but get a meter or a buddy with one and check for yourself.

Bingo! I had a few minutes today while waiting for the girlfriend at home and took a gander at the clutch switch. It comes off with just 2 screws. I loosen the lever as to be able to turn the switch on top and went at it. As soon as I pulled the contact out I was convinced that was the problem. The best way to describe what I saw is to mix grease and powder graphite and that is what I had. I cleaned it up but it still won't fire. It seems that the contact is not traveling far enough. I did use an alligator clip to short it and it starts every time. I had no time to check any further as the young restless girlfriend made it home but if the neutral switch works and I can't fix this switch I will just bypass it until I get one.

The bad switch is not in the transmission but in the clutch lever assembly. The neutral ligh worked fine. There was nothing that did not worked other than the bike starting every time. You can say I have it. It is a matter of getting the switch of just bypass it.

sounds like you might have found the culprit. good deal.

new bike sounds fun. sport bikes are always fun to ride. having the G/F ride her own with you is the best way to ride together in my opinion.

I cleaned the contacts real good and adjusted the clutch lever and it is working constantly now. You do have to pull that lever all the way in to the point the lever is flat touching the handle. The neutral switch does not work so I am making sure this switch work. I might get the kick stand switch to work. It does not stop the motorcycle form starting but there is a warning light in the console. For what I know it could be the light itself.
The girlfriend wants to be able to drive a motorcycle but she prefer being a passenger as she has before. We are already planning on taking the classes together.
