Dont countersink Carriage bolts .. there not ment to be used that way ..

YD.

absolutely. also in regard to the sealant, I assumed someone would start bashing 4200... especially for something taht could be so close to the waterline, but YD is totally right, it doesn't matter

I think he meant drill through for the carraige bolts if he ends up going the route eventually.

i think one of the problems is that the carriage bolt tops will be thicker than the glass... I guess you could pre drill for the head of the bolt... I mean, I've never seen a bolt used like that. Maybe it's doable?

I guess I'll throw in my 2?. I'd predrill, fill will 10 minute epoxy and use threaded inserts like these...

The outer threads will allow the epoxy to hold them firmly in place. You can coat the bolts with vaseline and the inner threads before setting them in the holes with the bolts in place. In 30 mins you'll be ready to go. I do this all the time in my woodworking and it works great.

No, I mean he just misspoke, I believe he was just talking about drilling all the way through the platform. Not counter sinking the bolts.

I like your inserts idea better than the dowel rod approach I was planning to take. Of course, I should still use the 5200 on the screws, when I screw the new screws back in, correct?

Also, I looked at 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant (5200), and the curing time is 5-7 days on it. So that's pretty much a no-go to take the boat out this weekend huh?

Know of any store I can physically go to for this? I'd like to get it all fixed tomorrow, and be on the lake on Saturday. The only place I can find it is online. I see Lowes carries it, but all the stores are out of stock...

Use the 5200! They are talking about the full cure time. It will cure underwater. It might still be tacky the next day but sprinkle some Talcum powder on it and your good to go. The 10 minute epoxy will be fully cured and the threads on the bolts will be good to go with the 5200 coating them I would not hesitate to do this one day, and go boating the next.
