System check buzzer

We have converted from a 91 2 stroke to a 02 4 stroke using a wiring harness adapter. We purchased a new system check guage and have that working. Off of its harness is a 2 pin connector we purchased a Radio Shack 12v buzzer. (I know should use OEM) when the key is turned on we get a 1/2 second beep like you should. We then unhook the temp sensor wich starts the check engine light blinking a code. When we short the tan/stripe wire to a ground the overheat light goes solid but no alarm sounds. I know it's not a OEM buzzer but due to the test sound I don't think that is the problem. Any ideas?

Re: System check buzzer

System Check does not use a 12 volt buzzer like the pre-1996 models did. A System Check "buzzer" is like a stereo speaker, it will not make a sound by itself, it has a signal sent to it from the System Check 4-lite gauge than makes the warning tone. The Radio Shack buzzer could damage the electronics inside the gauge. Use the correct parts.

Re: System check buzzer

Just wanted to thank you 2 for your help. We got the Johnson buzzer in last night and it works great. You were both right on with your info. Now if we could just get our darn tach problem fixed and the snow to melt from this weeks storm.
