I've learned Tash is always right in these regards, so I'd look at it as "theres a lot of fun there" because if you don't like this sort of work its really gonna be a LOT of work.

Put [*IMG] on the left end and [*/IMG] on the right end of each link, but without the "*" asterisk, and all the photos will show up on screen in the thread.

Like this...
[*IMG]http://1s1kclan.com/cactus/CACTUS/15.jpg[*/IMG]

and you'll get this

From a quick look...

...5.jpg: Looks like delamination off frame to left of black hose

...7.jpg: Those are some serious cracks

...12.jpg: Deck is dry and checked

...13.jpg: Ominous gaps between deck and edge of motor well (green leaf sticking up, etc.)

What's happening below that deck and how solid is the transom?

I will have some time this week and I planned on pulling off the deck to get a better look. form what i have seen and my understanding of what the transom is, it looks really good. no sign of rotting or weak points. on pic 7, it almost looks like a cooler but no drain. I will post some more pics next week after i remove the deck.

I never would have bought a project boat without the intention of seeing it through. At this point I wanted some insight on what to do next. I have a passion for woodworking so taking on this project looks like alot of fun. Nothing better than the pride of rebuilding it yourself. anyone can buy new!

I figured about 3 days for me to remove and replace the wood deck (if thats what its called). Another few days to redo the carpet. I am a slow worker. few hours here and a few more there. I have all winter until fishing season. Thanks for the advice and I will post progress pics and I will need lots of advice.

Re: take a look for me please?

plan on the entire winter.......really...no kidding....

you wont know what you are getting into untill the deck comes out.....look for wet foam.....if the foam is wet the entire stringer transom system can/will be compromised.....

read the compleated projects section....esp skanky beast by jason j....

for a real kick....read the first two pages of the hull extension thread...take note of how long it was supposed to take.....then hit the last page and see the date of when the last pics were posted...:D

thanks opps,

I was reading your hull extention. took me over 3 hours to view all 79+ pages. by the way, your doing a hell of a job on that boat. in my field, i became an expert in providing my customers with a glassed finish on drywall smooth walls so i can understand how much effort you have just in the finish process. wow great job. my hopes are that i wont have to do that but you never know.

cactus.

it sounds like you are going into this with "a project" based attitude....

that is the best attitude to have.....

what ever you find in there.....dont worry....we can and will walk you right thru it....no big deal.....just time and labor

Re: take a look for me please?

Hmmm. Seat needs some duct tape, and the speaker could use a grill.... And it looks like some little round things are falling out of the hull onto the driveway in the first picture. I would be concerned about that....
:D:D:D

Ok, seriously, its a mess. Looks to me like it needs a lot of work. Rotten deck, cracks in hull, gell coat needs polishing, new upholstry... Hows the motor run?

have not gotton that far yet mark. I pulled the carb off today and checked the float bowl and needle valve. aside from a quick clieaning, the motor and all the lines look great. It would appear that the past owner took care of it while he had interest. I only have weekend when the money permits and a few hours each day but just wanted to get comfortable before i started tearing stuff up. I will remove the deck this week. and post pics. thanks all.

Re: take a look for me please?

well, i finally tore off the top deck this week. I am a little concerned with what I found. Usually I would just patch something like this up but being as it is a boat, i figure it should be fixed right. tell me what i need to do.

this is at the stern near by the transom. see the dark spot? it appears that the coating on the plywood cracked and i lifted it to expose some beginning rot. not bad but its there.

b1.jpg

this is the same thing other side.

b2.jpg

this is at the bow, and the front had water in it. not alot but it did have some. probably from the last rain.

b3.jpg

same area just diff angle.

b4.jpg

at the transom-bilge pump area. I saw no cracks or damage here.

b5.jpg

this is under the live well.

b6.jpg

I have not checked the foam because I dont know how and I dont see it. I have been hesitant to tear up more if it was not needed because that means I have to put it bact together. urrrrg.

I need guidence please
