Just my .02. I think you are going to be unsatisfied with the way that boat handles waves/slop compared to what you have now. Yes,trim and dead rise can make a difference but having less motor weight, and located farther back with an outboard will definately effect the way things handle. Compared to what you have now, I just don't see you being happy with that light of a boat, although it will be better on fuel no doubt.

From the page that was cutoff: 1.75 lower-unit gear with 25p x 13 3/4 Mercury Trophy Plus prop. I believe the prop is now some version of the Tempest, but don't quote me on that.

Here's another color option. There are thousands of color options:

This transaction of buying is cool.......but.....consider this!

Black Thunder with 502 Bulldogs. 74mph tops. My partner and I were a rep and had one on our hands to sell.....couldn't sell it, the banker took.....nevermind!

Two Bulldogs? So, that's somewhere around 1300 HP? I never liked offshore power boats with crazy twin HP. That ain't boating. Wouldn't mind pissing off one of 'em guys in the channel, when they can't catch me. ;)

hmmm, I believe 1100. Certainally not my cup of tea either. Maybe that's where the "couldn't sell it" comes into play. We went to the Bahamas in 3footers once with 12 cases of Budweiser (smuggeling for dockage) all shook up, 2 of us needed a chiropractor. michrowave landed on the sole, A/C hose came loose from the seacock...nuff said!

Good luck on your choice, Philster!

This is part of the dilemma. I don't feel beaten up getting off the Scarab. I see waves and go right over them, never missing a beat. I could go with a newer I/O, but then I'd have to match the performance, which requires another 496 HO or 502 HO, and find an open bow. Now, is this do-able? Sure.

I'm on the fence. My wife said to me one day, "We need a cool boat; go buy a cool boat." Presto: Scarab. I could click through about 1,000 I/O's with open bows.... and the only one she likes is the Baja Islander.... at 27.7 feet and a whole lotta coin.... but there are some that are workable financially.

I prefer Etecs, too. Mercury has so many 300 hp units sitting around that the incentives are ridiculous.

Regardless, 300 HP options are Verado or Optimax.

You people have not talked me out of this.

If I can afford one, I'm buyin' one (pending sea trial).

Now that I've significantly jinxed myself, I am sure the finances won't work out. Whatever I order (or just dream about), I am gonna need some red in it. Maybe some black, too.

I think I'm going to have to spend more time down at the bay next season.

I'm going back and forth with the dealer. Either keeping, trading, selling, or brokering my boat. All depends.

Definitely get double swim platforms. No wakeboard tower for me.

Finances... this should be interesting....

Was just watching your y-tube video where you are standing at the helm, I bet you will miss actually being able to stand and operate. Just a thought....
It is a great looking boat. My wife loves the red...
Good luck!

Why do you think he can't stand at the Checkmate helm?

The Scarab does have drop down bolsters, but the Checkmate has pop up bolsters that allow you to stand with your rump on the bolster and lower back on the seat back -- sort of like you find on many center consoles (the final seating position -- not the seat).

I had looked at the pics and watched the vid, it looked too shallow to stand at. I guess i was wrong? It has a pop up bolster?

The seat bottom flips up on the Checkmate. You partially stand/sit/lean back on it, which is akin to the standing/leaning position one assumes on a center console.

The seat bottom on the Scarab drops down. You completely stand and lean back on the seat back.
