Don't do it... cuz it needs thousands and thousands of dollars in it to make it go. Uh-uh!

no engine, no outdrive, no trailer

that's not a boat, it's a bill at the dump.

Valid points. But for $200? How much can I get an engine for? And an outdrive? And a trailer? So for a grand total of...... And I could have a nice Wellcraft. Lets run the numbers boys....

Someone stop me... Please....

About $5000 if you do everything yourself and that doesn't include little stuff that will go wrong.

If you're going to spend 5 grand, you can find something way better than that, that is ready to go. I considered the same option and figured I'd rather use my money for a working boat and then be able to use it rather than spend the same amount of money and a bunch of my labor to assemble it. Plus if you are married as I am, your wife will be much happier to see a decent boat on a trailer rather than a POS with no engine. Just my opinoin though, if you're up for a major project it may be what you need.

Re: Talk me out of this...

I agree, if you did it yourself, you would spend at least $5K on an engine, geartrain and outdrive... If you had to have someone else install it all, my guess would be closer to $8-10K. Repowering a boat can really cost big $$$.

You can look here on iboats listings and/or on boat trader and find ready to go boats for as low as $2000 up to what you want to spend dependign on what you are looking for.

A project is up to you, but I think I would start with one that has a running engine and drivetrain...

You probably looking at someone else's donor boat. The floors, stringers and transom are probably shot and they took the engine, drive and trailer to use with another hull.

NO! Don't do it. If it was an outboard type boat you could find a good used outboard motor to drop on the transom and after you found and bought a trailer, you'd be off and running. But that would be a money pit/nightmare. There's plenty of good used boats around. Check out the Boat Trader magazine. Good Luck!

If it was a nice Wellcraft, it would still have the motor, outdrives, and trailer with it.

I think $5000 is a little bit high, at least around here.
I know I could do it for less than $4000.
But then again you can buy a pretty nice boat for $4000 and not have all that labor invested.

I've gotta agree with everyone else. For what you'll end up with tied up in that one, you could buy a running boat and enjoy it as you restore it. Granted you'll end up with more money invested in it in the long run, but you'll probably also end up with a nicer boat.

Lol, no doubt, spend $200.00 on the boat, another few hundred trying to restore it, and then pay somebody another $100.00 to come haul it off when you get frustrated! :D
