Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Today was a great day. 70 degrees but very windy. I got my first coat of paint on today thinned 10 percent. I could have gone more but the recommended amount was 10 percent maximum. Must have been the humidity. I was painting the second half of my bottom and a gust of wind came and blew my paint tray over. I had paint all over the place. I cussed a few words. Actually, I didn't know I knew so many cuss words until today. But all worked out okay. I also painted my outboard two coats of Moeller OMC/Cobra Charcoal Gray. I was worried that it may be too dark but turned out okay. Tomorrow I'll give it a clear coat spray and hope for the best. Also tomorrow I'll put on my last coat of Flag Blue on the bottom of my boat. Then monday I'll put it back on the trailer. It's been a painful process because of the weather but it's starting to turn nice. Finally. I hope all is well with everyone else and don't forget my cam. It's on now and will be on till it gets wet. lol.

TC- Looks great. I like the darker color blue- it's pretty sharp! I dumped the paint tray 2x's, put a tarp in wet paint, hit an elbow in wet paint, hit the drill bit into a freshly painted top- yeh the curse words definitely fly like the wind when that fu_K_in_ S_it F_CK_n_ happens!!!:p

Seriously though- the bottom looks great:D

I like the darker blue too. It looks rich if that makes sense.

The motor looks new with that paint job. I should do that at some point as well.

Looking good man. I thought you'd have more empties than that :) I know I've gone through more since starting the boat.

I got my last coat of paint on the bottom this past week. And I'm happy to report that she's back on the trailer. I also have the first coat of paint on my Johnson cowl. I'm using the Interlux white, same as my boat. I hope it turns out okay. Here's a pic all primed up.

Your way worked great, except it didn't resize on it's own. So I went in and edited the proper size. Otherwise, is awesome.

The cowling looks good all primed. Did you find new decals for it?

Lets see some pics of the boat back on the trailer:D

I'm having my local screenprinter make me new decals. They will look similar but with a different colour scheme. One to match the boat more. I will have more pics later in the week. I have to do a few fiberglass repairs before I can paint the sides of the boat. I'll be putting my last coat of paint on the cowl today and tomorrow I'll drop it off at the screen printers place. I want them to put the decals on. I'm sure I would screw it up. And at 60 bucks, I don't want to have them do it again.

Seeing that this is Canada Day, first of July, and the sun is shining and the temperatures are high(low 70s), shutup, it's hot for us..lol. I'm off and was lucky enough to get some fiberglassing done. I've included some pics and hope you enjoy.

Canada Day. At least you fellas south of border so it right, make a long weekend out of it.lol.

I have two major cracks on the right side of my boat. And I don't mean spider cracks. I took my grinder and slower stripped away the gelcoat, then most of the original fiberglass. These cracks are deep. I got them after my last rebuild so I'm assumming that it's a stress issue. Maybe I didn't have the hull lined up after I tore it apart. I hoping these repairs will suffice.

I also went along the edge of the boat where the top meets the hull behind the rub rail. I had an issue with a few stainless screws being rusted through. So I glass the entire edge and when I re install my rub rail I will silicone so no water can get in.

So here she is sitting on the trailer. The clouds starting rolling in so I decided not to go any further. It's not suppose to rain but you cannot rely on the weather man here.

I did notice a crack on the right side of this pic on the transom. And the repair I did 3 years ago had a crack in it. The fiberglass was like a gel. Very weird. So I was able to get most of it out and did another repair. You can't tell in this pic, but I wanted to show that I covered that part of the transom again because I change my steering system and I have my CMC power trim, so the old clamp marks and steering holes will be gone.

Also I put the last coat of paint on my Johnson cowl. Now after it drys I will reinstall the rubber seal on the bottom and send it to the screenprinter for the installation of the new decals. Can't wait for that. No more pics of the motor either until it's mounted back on the transome..lol. Just a tease.

Happy Canada Day.

Oh, and by the way, I turned another page on my beautiful iboats calendar. If you don't have one, get one. Talk about great looking boats....

Hey TC,
Looking good, Glad to see you making some progress.
As for the temp. Well, I moved further south because of the cool temps. I like it hot too.
Keep the fires burning.

Great work TC! I agree with the resto calendar! It would be tough though to sum up months of work into a couple of pics. Nice repairs by the way;)

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Just a quick update....I'm halfway through two weeks vacation. I fly out on Tuesday to my home province of New Brunswick where I'll be spending time with my 3 sisters. It's the first time the four of us have been together in years. Our parents have been deceased for some time so it's only the four of us left. I am too excited. I haven't done any work on the boat..I have a buddy, he's 63, great guy, over here to do some salmon fishing. He's been here for 2 weeks and between the salmon fishing and trout fishing we are quite tired of all the fresh air...;) But I promise, as soon as I get back, I'll be finishing the boat. The weather has been beautiful. Mid to high 80's and sometimes the low 100's
with the humidity. I love it. Anyway, take care to everyone...see you in a week or so..I love my sisters, but they are soooo caveman..lol. No computers, internet..blah..lol. Here is a pic of my friend and a couple of Atlantic salmon he caught. And a pic of my inflatable we used for trout fishing.
