Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

:( Sorry to hear of TD's passing. He was one of the first people here to help me out both with specific questions and where to post.

So Sorry to hear this news. I never knew him personally, but I know he did a lot of great things for the members of this site and for this site as well. I was great to be a part of your site, my friend.;)

Here is to T.D.,
Going to go outside and look at the stars and smoke a swisher sweet and have a cold beer.
The man has touched a lot of people and never met a lot of them face to face.
You will be missed.

Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

I only knew TD through this site. TD was the first to respond to my first post on the forum. While I never knew him personally, I feel I knew him anyway.

I count him as a friend.

You will be remembered.

Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

This is terrible news. I regret having been a couple days too late for the Astor get together recently. Would have liked to meet up. I haven't been here long but I really appreciated his posts and figured out paths would eventually cross. I pray his family finds some peace during this painful time.
Hug your family and enjoy this holiday season folks.

Just to add that if Robert's sister ever does get to read this thread, I hope she will realize how important a person Robert was to us, and how many people he helped.

Like buoys and channel markers guide seamen, Robert guided many boat enthusiasts with his experience.

So sorry to see a man who just loved boating and helping others by sharing his knowledge be taken away from us too soon.

It is good to hear that Tasha has a home, I too had wondered about her, I know she must be missing him as well, she was his companion all the time.

Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

If you take the link to the funeral home website, there is a guest book where you can post your comments about Robert. Might want to think about posting something to honor his passing.

I did:

Hi,

My name is Mark, and I met Robert on the iboats.com online boat forums. Although I never met Robert in person (I live in New Jersey), after years of posting messages I got to know him a little bit from his love of boats and felt a great sorrow at his passing. I want to share a part of his life with you that may not be well known to those outside the boating online community.

Robert was a great contributor to the iboats.com boating forums. He took great zeal in helping others with their boating issues. And he did it all for the love of boating. Robert (known as Tashasdaddy on the forums) will be sorely missed.

Robert joined the boat forum in November of 2005, and having been a member for 3 years at that point myself, I was a little taken back by this "brusk and outspoken" gentlemen from Florida. After a while his experience and knowledge of boats and boating were obvious to the iboats.com owners and he was offered a position as a Moderator. A high level recognition of ability, competence and attitude in the online forum world. As such, Robert was able to monitor members issues and resolve conflicts between members along with his regular contributions to helping members with motor problems or broken boats. His "matter of fact" and "no nonsense" methodology got the job done in short order, and quickly made him stand out as an authority that would not stand for people making trouble or just arguing pointlessly. In addition to his contributions to repairs, he helped keep the forums a family "G" rated forum safe for a family member of any age to read or participate.

Regular contributing members like myself got a good feel of Roberts continued efforts to help those in need of boat advice. It was apparent that he had a solid knowledge of outboard motors, boat configurations, and overall boat maintenance.

Although I was not the closest member of the forum to Robert (we often disagreed on some very specific boat repair issues related to materials and/or practices) I enjoyed our good spirited discussions.

Robert kept his personal life rather private, and only a few times early on mentioned his children. I know he had strong feelings for them, and did miss them, albit there were some family issues he would not discuss online.

Robert was well known for his companion dog Tasha, who more often than not was in any photo of Robert posted on the forum.

My deepest sympathies to Roberts family and friends,

Regards,

Mark.

Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

BTW, Right now if you go to the page to post a condolence message, you will see none. That is because after posting your message, it must be reviewed by the Home before being made public. I do not know how long that will take, but I suspect your condolence message will be viewable by the following day.

A very nice tribute to a guy I've never met. Touched me deeply...I am new here...but the brotherhood I see among the other iboaters is also truely amazing.

Prayers for all of his friends and family, and I pray the rest of you hang around for many years to come.

Re: Tashasdaddy Has passed away

its hard to know where to start..

My name is Branden Martinez, I was Bobs' apprentice, and closest friend at the time of his departure.. His passing is very rough to deal with. I have experienced his generosity, and wisdom, first hand, everyday for the last year. He is a grandfather to me, not by blood, but by heart. His knowledge of not only outboard engines, but life in general surpasses anyone else i have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And will never be matched at his level.
Knowing of his ongoing illness, he was searching for the right person to pass his expertize of the outboard repair business to. He found me at a garage sale my dad was having. after only a few mins of conversation with him, he gave me the opportunity to try my hand as an outboard mechanic. I jumped at it, I was born with grease under my nails when it comes to small engines.
It took three days for Bob to mention a raise in pay, due to the increase in productivity. After about a month He found himself watching ME. I caught on quick and learned as much i could while i had the time.
Eventually, bob couldn't do most of the physical work. When i pitched in my own time and effort for the sake of the business during one particularly tough time, Bob made the decision to make me 50/50 partners in his business.
Bob took me places i would most likely would have never seen, or experienced, he introduced me to unforgettable people that i am positive i would have never had the pleasure of meeting. He will always be remembered by me. R.I.P. ROBERT E. GRIFFIS

As for the business. Its struggling. I have the knowledge to work on almost every Johnson or Evinrude motor, But i don't have the same resources of business that Bob had. I will answer any questions you may have about the business over the internet only please (johnsonevinrude.branden@yahoo.com)
. If you have questions about a situation with a johnson or evinrude motor please look me up on craigslist.(Bob and Brandens johnson/evinrude service and repair). We have recently moved to 6491 Aline rd jax, fl 32244.
any help is greatly appreciated.

SPECIAL THANKS TO RICK FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND CONCERN.
