Tearing out floor and have a question

So my fall project was to rip out the carpet and floor, a few weak spots so decided just to gut it and replace everything.
Carpet is out and I did a 2x2 square of the floor to see underneath.
My question is on the side of the boat were normally you put the fishing poles, ores etc the floor goes underneath this.
I thought there would be some kind of wood support that the flooring rests on but it looks like it connects to the storage area.
So I am stuck on what else I need to tear out. I took a few pics but it is kinda hard to see.

The first one is the hole cut out and the knife to the side is the lip where the storage usually is on the side.
The second one I tried to show underneath the cut out piece. There is nothing supporting the floor underneath I guess it is attached to the storage structure.

So do I have to tear out the storage L-shaped part also, and if so how does the flooring fasten to that and how does that L-shaped part fasten to the hull cause all I can tell is fiberglass?

I hope it kinda makes some sense.
Thanks

Re: Tearing out floor and have a question

A boat ???? or your kitchen? kitchen's have floors.... boats have decks.

Do the entire deck at once. It might be glued and/or screwed down..... everyone is somewhat built different and there may be a creative way when you install the new deck.

Many portions of the deck are fiberglassed in with tabs and filler.

Re: Tearing out floor and have a question

Its hard to see exactly whats going on from your pics. Normally, as a rule of thumb, fiberglass boats are two section, and three section. The exterior hull from bottom up the sides is one piece. The cockpit area, and interior is the second section. The third section is cap, that goes over the lower hull, and cockpit section. They all mate and attach at the top of the lower hull sides, and then usually a rubrail is installed to cover attaching screws, and also to protect boat when docking, etc..
Sometimes there are only two sections, the lower hull, and the top section which includes the interior cockpit/cabin, with the cap also.
Regarding your floor, again normally the lower hull has stringers running bow to stern, with bulkheads running starboard to port. These are placed for structual support, and the tops of these support the floor(sole). Below is a cut of a standard layout to give you an idea of how its done.

Hope this helps you some. As Bob pointed out, you will probably be better off replacing the complete deck, other than patching here and there. Try to post some better pics after you have check deeper into the damage area.

A word of caution..... many people use circular saws to remove the old decking with the blade set as shallow as possible...... be careful not to cut through the hull.
