Could I use a bottle of Techron to decarbonize my Johnson 150 if I squirted it in the carbs like Sea Foam? At Walmart, Techron is about $2 cheaper than Sea Foam and I was wondering if it would work just a well for decarbonizing. :)

Read the composition. Is techron the same product in different packaging?
Spend the 2 bucks and know you got the right stuff for the job. We all know Sea Foam works.

You could try it, I suppose. Techron is mostly used as a fuel-sytem detergent though. I'm not sure how it would perform in the concentrated mixtures we use to decarb a two-stroke. Also, the operating temperatures of four-strokes and outboards are different by a lot. That also may play a factor in how well the product works as a decarb agent.

My opinion is you'll be wasting a perfectly good bottle of techron, but I don't think it'll hurt anything either. If you're going to use it, I'd recommend the 1 gal gas 1 bottle of decarb agent in a portable tank method. At least you'd be giving the carb a really good cleaning - techron is excellent at that.

You guys are right. I think I'll spend the extra 2 bucks and stick with Sea Foam. I know that stuff works. Thanks and happy boating.

I almost made the mistake of using it, right on the bottle it says "not for two stroke motors"
