Tempo Products 6.5 gallon gas tank

Someone gave me a used Tempo Products plastic gas tank.

Other than some grit and exterior dirt, it looks fine. A bit faded from sunlight.

I'm going to clean it up and pressure/leak test it.

The plastic tanks do fade from the sun, but usually just look bad.

Is this one with the vent screw in the filler cap? Just put a little gas in it and close the vent, then let it sit in the sun for a short time. If it starts to balloon and you you don't see any gas leaking as you slosh it around, I'd say you have a good tank. Then loosen the vent to relieve the pressure.

It has a cap with a vent. I like your idea and will try it.

How does this type of tank pick up the gas?

Is there a vent screen or something else I should clean?
