Re: temporary attaching the registration sticker

ya my niebohor never had a problem with having the registration on a plate and he switches it between two small boats a zodiac and a dinghy

he hasn't had a problem because he hasn't been stopped... That is HIGHLY illegal and almost certainly worth a hefty fine if they find out.

I've only got two vehicles, no need to license/register both when I can only drive one a time, might as well swap plates on them!

Re: temporary attaching the registration sticker

It is illegal in all 50 states to change registration numbers on vehicles, I know here in Montana, when it comes to a car, I own the plate, so if I buy a new car then I can take the plate off my old car and they will register it to the new car, but you can't just do it on your own, you would be charged with a felony, as far as boats and other recreation vehicles, each time it changes hands, you need to do it all over again and pay all the fee's involved. But you cannot, just switch your tag from boat to boat...

He does it every now and then No one stops him because he has the registration on the boat and he not doing any thing bad so he doesn't get stoped. But if your doing it for a quick time like what i do since i don't have a trailer plate for my boat trailer i just ask my neighborer for his for a day and bring it were i need and then the boat launch is with in a mile of were i keep the boat so i don't use a license plate for that only going from my house to the other house.

i don't want to go to pay for a trailer license plate for a trailer that i don't use all the time and on a boat that i switch trailers and use different trailers. I might get a plate for the next boat trailer i get and use that on all the trailers but for now i just use my neighorer

SBL- You cannot and should not advise someone to engage in illegal activities in good conscience. The "Well (I, we, my neighbor) does it all the time" is not an acceptible justification. This is not good advise. This is incredibly bad advise on many levels. This is not a 'contribution', and the site as a whole has been diminished as a result of your participation.

And that is the reason that when we try and do something that makes logical sense (like not affixing a sticker until we paint the boat) that we pay for the sins of those who choose to circumvent the law.

Then plain and simple you are breaking the law, and those of us, that don't break the law are paying for it..I am all for saving every single dime I can, but I will never break a law and I will never put a friend in jepordy, which you are doing by using his plate "Just for the day"

Simply amazing!

And to speak to circumventing the law further. All the services that we expect at the launch (toilets, ramps, docks. fish stocking, law enforcement etc.) are paid for with those fees. I pay a $35 yr boat fee and $45 for a 10yr tag on my trailer. Pretty cheap for the services I get IMO.

Do you even care how dishonest this is? I mean the rest of us pay what we're supposed to and do it because that's the law we live under. With your logic, since I only use my trailer twice a year to take my boat to and from the lake, less than 150 miles round trip, I should ask my neighbor...who paid the proper fees, to use his plate cause I don't use my trailer enough to justify paying the state full price for it. Wow....the honest guy aint gotta chance in this hill jack infested world.

what were you talking about the boat ramp. Were i live the boat ramp is horrible it a ramp into the water that you can only go at high tide and is still very low than.i only use the trailer plate once in a while i might get one of the trailers register this year so i don't have to keep bugging him but i'm not going to pay for three license plate for three trailers.

If the ramps suck that bad that it makes you want to drive illegally, then I might have a legal solution for you that would not also get your neighbor in trouble as well. Sell all three trailers. Then get yourself some roof racks for your car or truck, hoist that boat on the roof, and haul it that way. Problem solved and perfectly legal. BTW, do not forget to strap the boat down when placing it on top of your vehicle. Good quality straps might cost as much as registering one of your trailers, but hey at least your legal.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I never claimed I haven't done anything illegal.

I will say that I don't advocate breaking laws intentionally and repeatedly. I will say that I don't break laws that either cost other taxpayers money or contribute to the decay of the infrastructure by shirking my fair share of the load. Never have, never will.

If someone calls me out on a stand that is basically indefensible, I'll either take my licks and apologize or not reply at all. No point in getting into a spittin' match. What I won't do is continue to try to convince what is obviously an overwhelming majority that their position is wrong.

I am not referring to the OP, I'm referring to SBL. If you don't see where he's doing something wrong, then that makes two of you. G'nite.
