Re: Thanks for the help.

Everyone on this board has been a huge help and the reponses are always quick. I know for a newbie like me, it has helped me get up to speed. I can't remember all the specific names but I know JB and DHadley have helped me out. It is also nice to research old posts and the FAQs have been helpful. Great jobs Iboats and moderators.

Pete

Re: Thanks for the help.

Last summer I was a "newbe". I got lots of help with my project from the good folks on this forum. From choosing the right pitch prop (bought right here from iBoats) to making the proper connections to having the right performance expectations.

Issues like how the choke works and how to use it, understanding that the VRO system really is a good thing, what alarms mean, and getting the right tach for my motor were all resolved right here.

A big round of applause to everyone!!!

Now I try to return the favors by helping the newbes when possable by sharing my experiences and what I learned right here.

Thank you,
Mark.

Re: Thanks for the help.

There are many ways I have been helped here. From asking a question and getting the best answer/s, to reading the question I was going to ask with it all ready answered. Thanx to all, but mostly to Iboats (and the moderators of course) for putting up with the lot of us!
Thanx Iboats
Richard

Thanks to all of the people who make this place the great source of knowledge that it is. Ever since I found this form it is almost like an addiction! I find myself logging in several times a day just to see how everyone is getting along and to see if people have solved their toughest troubleshooting ordeals. This place is like a safe haven to me, I look forward to reading posts and posting to try and help someone out. Thank you iboats for bringing this great family of people into my life!

Fireship 1 :)

Re: Thanks for the help.

I am thankful for all the help I get here. I am teaching some teens how to rebuild and troubleshoot marine engines and I get tons of help from here. We have several engines disassembled and are in the process of rebuilding them and the questions from the "students" are fast and I dont know the answer all the time. Great to have a place to go to get one..........

Graham,

24 hours? -Why did your answer take so long?
The lads here are usually much quicker than that!

Agree with all that's been said. the experts give their time and 'trade secrets', while the amateurs like me, with big gaps in our knowledge, give when we can from our limited hands-on experience.

It's a humbling experience finding out you're wrong half the time!

Can I add my appreciation for all the information, helpful hints, and most of all PATIENCE given to all us newbies? I'm always amazed how everyone answers our "rookie" questions without rolling their eyes. At least they don't mention that they're rolling their eyes...
Keep it up!

Re: Thanks for the help.

When I bought my 'toon I was full of happiness but had zero knowledge. I found this forum and began asking away. I got help from so many folks I can't begin to recall all the names.

Not to mention the hours of boredom that i didn't have to endure while reading the thousands of great posts.

Two years later, my '71 Johnson 50 has a new water pump and ignition switch, I have a service manual, and I know how to launch my boat.

I don't post much, but I read the forums regularly and it gets better every time.

So thanks a ton to all who help folks here. You make my boating experience much better and safer than it would have been.

-Spiker

Re: Thanks for the help.

Many thanks to both OBJ and WillyBWright for their rapid response to my question and thanks to them, i was able to make a few of my repairs but still some more to come. And to OBJ, with your description of a harmonic puller, I was able to come up with one using of all things a car jack and some chains. No patent pending on this one, but thanks again.

Andrew

Hi, This is certainly an excellent site, thanks to all involved. I and probably most newbies try to be succinct but are concious of not wanting to appear discourteous.
Some of the entertaining colloquialisms have me stratching my head but that of course applies both ways, (two great nations divided by a common language ;) ). regards, Al.

Re: Thanks for the help.

I have asked a couple of questions and got the answers in minutes! I read almost all of the posts and learn from each one of them. Since finding this site last year, I feel as though I am a "qualified back yard mechanic" and am not afraid to tinker on my motors like I used to be. Thanks to all of the folks that post here. You have taken the "fear" out of my weekend boating. :)

Aldras.... Keep in mind that many of us boaters on the other side of the ocean have a limited vocabulary capacity. I had to look up that $37.00 word.... colloquialisms = informal conversation (grin)

Re: Thanks for the help.

I've just started a separate thanks thread for the people who've helped me.

I think it's nicer to acknowledge people who've helped in a separate thread than a bulk "thanks" thread.

Not least because many of the people who help are just public-spirited souls who don't do it for thanks and who wouldn't look in a thanks thread, but who deserve acknowledgement where they can see it.

Most cases can be thanked at the end of a thread but some, like mine, where's there's been a longer series of threads on various issues deserve their own thanks thread.

It doesn't take up much bandwidth or mess up a forum too much.

Re: Thanks for the help.

Having been working with small engines all my life and taken some classes in school that relate to mechanics such as engine repairs, welding ,aviation repair classes and in my landscape business . Because of that I got good at taking stuff apart and knowing how to put to it back together right. I was able to get some great expert advice form this forum and make crucial decisions that would be best way for me to fix my engine. I also tried to help some a few posters to by giving my advice on what I think would help because I wanted to do my share of helping for the great help that I got.
By reading there post carefully I figure out what type of engine problem they had I give some advice of what I thought might help. I think I helped some one posted they got working like they wanted . But I only give advice when I had a good idea of the problem.

Thank you all so very much. You people that helped me I remember Rodbolt and JB.

I tell you was nice to get into this stuff on the engines and I like to come back to site and read some stuff
And respond. It is amazing to see that there are people that like the same things that I do and even like to talk about it.

I also learned a lot stuff from this site and added this stuff I learned to my knowledge. Mechanic stuff once I learn the right way to do it I don’t forget it because I love to know.
You all are also good teachers weather you know it or not.

Captain

Pictures

Re: Thanks for the help.

Thanks to all! I have learned so much here. I also think about the countless number of boaters that were helped by reading posts from other members. I know I have learned just by reading, not to mention the wealth of experience responding to my posts. Its not to often you can go into a busy marine shop and pick the brain of a factory certified and experienced tech. There time is valuable and here at iboats we have that oppertunity. I can't thank enough all who answer posts as well as those who post!! I have learned so much from all! THANKS
