mrs oops and i have been doing something different lately.....

she cooks one night......i cook the next....the trick is ...to out do last nights meal.

i am currently in the lead with my baby back ribs.....however she is a close second with her baked chicken.

so....what is the best taste you have ever tasted?...
is it fruit? dessert? or a full on meal?

if its something you make? if so...post a link to the recipe/instructions.

for me???

one of the best things is have ever tasted, was a fresh peach, right off the tree in the peak of its season.......(the stuff they sell in stores arent peaches...real peaches are totally different)

as far as dessert.....the chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce at earls restaurant in canada.

I remember when I had abalone for the first time, some 30 years ago at a cool little seaside restaurant up by Half Moon Bay. I think it was called the Princeton Inn. That taste was awesome. That's the first thing I thought of, food-wise :D

I still remember the prime rib from the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich Mass. That was on our New England honeymoon over 30 years ago. I wonder if the place is still there.

Once portaged into BFE Ontario. Fished well past sunset, set up camp in the first flat area we stumbled on. Rained all night, the tent leaked, hotter than hell and mosquitos tapped us dry. Absolutely miserable night. Woke up in the morning to find we set up camp on a ripe patch of wild Canadian blueberrys! All I can say is....heavenly!

I still remember going on vacation when I was younger with my parents and sisters. We used tog o to the Okanagon valley. Quite often we would stop and pick up a basket of cherries from a fruit stand on the side of the highway. Nothing like fresh cherries when driving down the highway, spitting the seeds out the window.

Next best thing was fresh trout. I was camping with my parents and their friends who a daughter that was really into fishing. We got up in te morning before any one else and went trout fishing. Caught a Dolly Varden that was good pan size. The noise of us two kids being so excited got everyone else up. Lit the fire and cooked it in a cast iron pan over the fire. The best breakfast I ever had.

Growing up we lived in front of a creek in NE PA. The creek bank was lined with wild black rapsberry bushes. Picking those wild berries at the peek of the ripeness was truely one of lifes simple pleasures. My mother used to make rapsberry pie from them.....man there is nothing beter than that!!!!

This thread is bugging the heck out of me, but I think I've got it . . .

Homemade Berry pie. I don't like Blueberries. I prefer Boysen, but Blackberries and Raspberries are OK too. Served warm with heavy cream poured all over it. The perfect balance of salt, sweet, tart and fat.

Re: the best thing i ever put in my mouth !

You are from CA, so you may never have had real blueberries.
We get lots of produce from CA which includes something that is labelled as "blueberries', but are something else entirely. Real blueberries are about 1/4 the size, and 10x the flavour. We now have to label them as "Wild blueberries" to differentiate.
As good as real blueberries are, and we have lots of them in Ontario, the best berries in this country are (take your pick of the top 3) :

a) Saskatoons (west-central canada)
b) Partridgeberries (atlantic canada)
c) Cloudberries/bakeapples (Newfoundland/Labrador)

Pies made from any...or all ...of those are exactly as QC suggests.
With an admitted bias, option c) is by far the best. An exotic and relatively rare, treat.

slow smoked pulled pork sandwich with fresh made coleslaw on top. topped with a cider vinegar and pepper finishing sauce and a side of smoked brisket with an ice cold leinenkugels creamy dark to wash it all down. I spent 12 hours manning the smoker, using both cherry wood and oak. everyone else at the party said it was the best BBQ they have ever had.

Fat-Back? How much pleasure is it to eat lard? I can feel my arteries closing up just thinking about this.

Are you sure you are not from Carolina? Pulled pork BBQ with vinegar and pepper! That is a stole around here.
