Well i did get my boat out on the water this past weekend, a bit cold, but at least i now know that the boat runs good after all of the work that was put into it. I had 5 adults all sitting in the back, one fairly large, and 6 kids sitting up in the bow of the boat. The boat got on plane with out any problems and it ran i think as good as it can. When taking it back to the launch to take it back out of the water for the weekend, with myself and a half tank of fuel and the normal gear, i was hitting 4600 rpm at 3/4 throttle for aprox. 20 seconds and hit 54 mph on the speedo with a 17 pitch prop. I forgot to grab my gps, on this trip out to see what the true speed actually is. I'm still afraid to hit wot as i only have about 10 to 12 hours on the boat. WOT is 5000 so i'm not really that far off, but now i know that the boat really runs great. Does anyone have any experience with the High 5 prop, and i know i can go up at least to a 18-19 pitch prop.

I'm guessing you haven't followed the posts, so here is an update. First when i purchased the boat it had a cracked block, which the owner payed for completly out of his pocket, so i had a new 350 mag long block put back in. Along with that i had them do a new engine coupler, water pump, power steering cooler, distrubuter cap, rotor, plugs and wires. After i got it back after the repower, i used it for aprox. 6 hours, and the next time i went out i checked fluids and no power steering fluid. Checked it out and they cross threaded the pressure fitting to the actual power piston. They had to replace that part, which cost almost 800, plus the labor of pulling the motor back in and out. When i got it back it didn't run again like it previously did. Did a pressure test on the fuel system, was only reading 18psi, should be 28 to 30. Replace the fuel pressure regulator, which is at the bottom port side of the motor, had to pull manifolds to get to it. In this process they found water in the manifolds and cylinders, did a pressure test of the manifolds and found i need new ones, so replaced the regulator, manifolds and had them do started while they were down there. Still didn't run right. Did a leak down test, and compression test, all fine. Checked plugs again. three where white, no fuel. Three of the injectors were clogged, replaced all 8 injectors, and now the thing runs great. I think that covers pretty much anything that is in the boat, completly new motor, steering system, fuel delivery, exhaust manifolds, starter, engine coupler. I should be good for a while i would think. The toal amout of money that went into the boat this summer was just over $9500, in which i paid just under $2500 of that, and purchased for $11,500. Not bad, so 14,000 for a brand new boat, because the actual boat is in absolut mint condition being not a scratch or tear to be found. I know that i'll have to do some outdrive work within the next few years, but that i can handle.

Well at least you wont have to worry about it all winter. You'll know when you splash it next spring that it will run like a champ!

Another warm weather wise guy......

Yeah, I when I was working I spent a fair amount of time in Minnesota, summer and winter. I'll never forget getting in my car when it was -3? wind chill, starting the engine, waiting a few minutes, and driving out of the parking lot. Got on the freeway. Windshield starting fogging a little, so I thought, OK put on the defroster on high. Had 1/8" of frost on the inside of my windshield in 30 seconds. Couldn't see a thing. Pulled off totally blind, and stopped. Five minutes later, I could see I was on the off-ramp of a freeway exit, but off the pavement. Said my prayers and went on, slowly. I respect you people that live up there year around (but I never found nicer people anywhere during my career...).

Yeah, you have to stay busy during the long winter, otherwise, a guy could go bonkers. Snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, whatever it takes to get to spring! My wife would leave tomorrow if I gave the nod. Although, my kid as 3 more years to go in HS. We'll see after that. Maybe we'll move, or, maybe we'll be here forever......

glad to hear everything is running good. If it ran bad this time when you went out then i think we would have read that you sunk your boat....lol.

I have 4 kids and moved from Upstate NY to NC two years ago. The two kids that were teens and still in school now wonder why we waited to move down here. With 3 years to go, that's plenty of time to make new friends.

You guys in full color (tree's) up there yet?

I'm just above the Ill boarder and things are starting to change.

OP, glad you got everything figured out, thats a real pain when time after time something goes wrong. At least the previous owner made things right.

I went to a prop calculator and checked, if you had no slip and a 1.5 gear ratio you'd be going 49 at those rpms on a 17" prop. So with a little slip your theoretical speed is even less. Something doesn't add up. Oh, BTW I'd go right on past the 19 pitch to a 21. I did a 4" jump on my boat (smaller, lighter than you) this week cause I was getting max rpms at 80% throttle. The boat pushes a 23" pitch fine. Go 4", I bet it's in the ballpark. Maybe start out with an aluminum til you figure how it acts, then spring for the stainless. The mag makes good HP!

I wasn't sure how to figure this out because i haven't actualy done wot with the boat yet. But i guess i could give more information. The boat dry is 3200lbs. and i'm guessing that's with a base motor, so is there extra weight with the 350 mag and the bravo one, because i know the bravo one weighs more than the alpha, and ofcourse the 8 cyl. has more weight than the 6. I do have the 1.5 ratio. I don't want to go too high as i want to use the boat mainly for sking and tubing. When i purchased the boat the previous owner had a Mercury marine bravo 1 22 pitch 4 blade ss on the boat but seemed to have a hard time getting out of the water, well that was before all of the work that i had done.
