Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

I swear to god, I am about ready to give up watching NASCAR, they have micro managed this racing so much that we never get a clean race anymore, this train drafting is doing nothing to enhance the sport! One sneeze and half the field is in a mess, playing bumper cars! it does not seem to be who the best or the fastest is anymore, just who you can hook up with!

Boooooo!!!!!

Yeah but what can they do MT? even if they let them go they will run as fast as they can where ever the top is and then draft in a big group and blamo!! Thats draft racing, I much prefer short track racing but what can they do at Daytona?

If they let them go they will be drafting at 300 MPH! Where do you draw the line? NASCAR is in a very tough situation

Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

I really enjoy the road races, they have to race on those tracks, I grew up watching in the 70's, these boys have as much skill and guts as they did back then, but have so much more safety in their equipment, I don't know what the answer is, but I sure know, this is not racing, its pacing...

Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

Well I have to disagree My friend, no other Racing organization ties nearly all types of asphalt racing together like NASCAR does, Short track, 3/4 Mile, 1 Mile, 1 1/2 mile, 2 mile, 2 1/2 mile and road courses, the only thing NASCAR doesn't mess with is dirt.......YET! LOL Super Speedways are not my favorite either but you have to take the good with the bad I will take Martinsville over Daytona any day EXCEPT this day, this is tradition!!

I don't think I like the new " Style " racing. 5 cautions with less than 50 laps....geeesh I guess things will be safer on the track when it gets to 75% of the cars are out due to crashes. I wonder if this will be the year of more yellow laps than green?

Roundy rounders huh? I can see that Bubba and Ken need to go to the race track with me once and I will have them hooked!! Teach you two about rubbin and wedge, puntin and fun stuff!!

Been to Taladega twice when i was down at our Gadsden, Alabama plant with the Nascar fans from there. Did not do much for me other than increase my alcohol consumption for the day !! :D
Sorry !!!

I hear ya MT I really do bud! I just don't have a good answer to it you know? I have been heavily involved in Late Model racing and I can tell you if the driver has a car that is capable of going 300 they will do it, and that just isn't going to work.

Also if anyone has Sirius, a new feature on Sirius is the addition of the NASCAR Officials channel on Sirius 158 kinda cool listening to the officials

It's the perfect new surface at Daytona and the great Goodyear tire. They won't do this anywhere else, but maybe Talladega.

Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

I saw it all, I had that sick feeling when they ran him out of the speedway in the ambulance I went outside to wash my truck and listened on the radio as they were constantly updating the situation and when the announcement finally came I kind of already knew what it was....strange but I don't know why but I knew

I saw Schrader's reaction when he walked over to Earnhardt's car and I didn't need an announcement.

Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

Missed this thread as I am watching as always. Big NASCAR fan here, I have a CAT background so I pull for the #31 :( and was originally a #22 fan with Ward Burton who I still miss every race. Sounds like Lipp and I agree on a lot. Love short tracks and wish they hadn't changed Bristol although I like progressive banking.

They will never do what they have to which is flatten the corners. This is not a problem with the cars, but a problem with Daytona and Talladega, the banking is just too high for cars that handle this well. If they flattened them out they just might be able to race again.

I like the idiosyncrasies that develop via "Plate" racing though. The two car thing is interesting and has changed a lot about the race.

Heck there goes another one. The #2 is gone, and dammit a problem with the #78 too . . . Dang.

Edit: The #78 is obviously OK. Oh and I like the #36 as a real underdog . . .

Re: The Daytona 500 thread!!!

Yeah, I was talking about the #2, but the 78 defintiely looks OK now. The #22 has been good. I generally pull for all RCR now, so I am happy with the 33 and 27. Can't believe both the #31 and #29 lost engines . . WTF? I did hear about the lean condition. Amazing that cooling systems are the weak link this race, but I get it. Funny how NASCAR used that to try and affect the two car "Love Bug" . . . lol
