Re: the Democrats are in charge

That is your version of stay the course CJY, Oddjob has it correct. That has been the goalof the President from the start. He has made changes, but when he does make changes, all you lefties cry about 'well if they don't do what W says, he fires them". It's time put the koolaid away for awhile and let the fog clear I think.

Stay the course may have meant that, but it did not accomplish it, now did it?

The only thing foggy, is that you believe "stay the course" was getting it done. Did you watch the address, W must believe it was not.

The federal deficit was not down 50% from last year.

The 2006 deficit was $248 billion, about a 22% year-over-year reduction.

It was about 48% lower than the administration's forcast of the 2004 deficit.

Re: the Democrats are in charge

The democrats will do their usual nothing but spend more money and attempt to enact more left wing social agendas. You have to remember that this is the worst economy since I beleive Truman, if you BELIEVE Senator and war hero John Kerry. If you do, the kool-aid line is to the left. Of course exactly how could they spend more money than the previous congress?

Liberals are incapable of admitting that things are actually going well. They work in a world of fear. People who are afraid love democrats. Cradle to grave, baby. American Samoa is the only, THE ONLY, people who don't get an increase in the minimum wage? Democrats just CARING more than the rest of us. (Unless you are in American Samoa of course.) Good job Lil' Nancy. Work those contributors.. I have some real concerns like exactly what are they doing about the boarder? ZILCH.

Anyone want to post the economic statics from the Nobel prize winning Carter Administration? Want to compare the Clinton administrations unemployment numbers? Being miopic is understandable for liberals but it doesn't change the reality of things. I don't think that everyone in this discussion appreciate exactly how the economy works.

I for one don't really appreciate the way my economy works! 8)

Now let me see, do I have this right? I can expect:
The economy to go South
Illegals to go North
Taxes to go Up
Employment to go Down
Terrorism to come In
Tax breaks to go Out
Social Security to go Away
Health Care to go the same way gas prices have gone
But what the heck!

You saying health care costs have been declining? What rock you been living under?

It is a crock o' whining & sniveling Rehub rhetoric, J.Tex......
BTW, "Duh"bya is gonna do his part to keep health care costs down by vetoing the Medicare drug price measure........
The Congressional budget office & King George are in Phrma's back pocket.......
You can't tell me that the government won't save money by negotiating drug prices.....
It is common practice for large healthcare insurance companies & some states as well....
Methinks that someone stands to lose alot of cash if'n that bill goes through....
Medicare part 'D" is just another example of Dummy's failed policies......:|

My point is about all the hollering about the US going to hell because Dems or Reps are "in charge", when in fact very little, if anything, will ever change...

In the short term, that may be true. But when the drug companies stop making a big profit, they will stop spending big dollars on R&D, which in the long run will hurt us all (not as many new drugs/treatments). Try looking to the future instead of just the short term, and not only in this area haut.

That would be nice, but: Raise taxes? Raise the minimum wages except in Nancy Galore's American Samoa, (the government knows how to run a small business right)? Surrender in Iraq? Stop the border fence? Take away all the guns from law abiding citizens, (so we can all depend on 911)? Start a military draft? End the death penalty except for the unborn: (Abortion on demand). Judges that legislate from the bench. Oh and the best one: Impeach Bush. Let's all hope nothing changes Snap! JR

Just like I don't mind big oil making money when they can. I beleive in capitalism. Maybe you should buy some stock in them so you can make some $ yourself.

Why do you have a problem with people making money?

Edit: Don, I recall on another post that you stated your views on things. I thought it you said that you said that you didn't want government in everything we do. Isn't this contrary to what you said?

No Plainsman no problem them making a buck, was responding to this part of your post.

<<But when the drug companies stop making a big profit, they will stop spending big dollars on R&D, which in the long run will hurt us all.>>

Marcia Angell, former editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, shows that much of what we thought about the drug companies is wrong. For one thing, they’re not innovative. Believe it or not, drug companies simply do not do research into major new drugs. All the real research is done at universities and funded by the government.

Thanks to the Bayh-Dole Act, universities can then patent these medical discoveries made by their employees using public(taxpayer money Eric) funding, which they then turn around and sell to the drug companies for a relative song. Often the universities have done all the work — including clinical trials — and drug companies just start up the manufacturing plants.

2001 Data Show Big Drug Companies Spent Almost Two-and-a-Half Times as Much on Marketing, Advertising and Administration as They Spent on Research and Development. This data I six years old, there profits for 2006 are shaping up to be record profits seeing as they bribed the Republicans into plan D, of the prescription drug act for seniors with $10,172,305, in campaign founds in the 2006 election cycle.

Thanks for the info, but I still stand by what I said.

Can you prove this: "they bribed the Republicans into plan D, of the prescription drug act for seniors with $10,172,305, in campaign founds in the 2006 election cycle." or is that just what you beleive?
