Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Looks like I've missed a lot the few days I was gone,
Lets see temperature, well woke up yesterday 20 degrees up at house upstate Brr but it hit almost 50 by 2:00, :( Deer not moving around

Major problems hunting this year, had the property logged this summer, place looks like a war zone  . Now I'm not blaming the landscape on my poor hunting results mind you, I could have shot, just nothing I felt had enough meat worth ending its life.
What infuriates me is the logger I have known since he was 14 and promised to do a nice clean job to facilitate a healthy forest and give plenty of food for the animals.
Spending so much time on the land I see there are so many tree tops down, and junk logs laying deer cant even walk around normally. Feeding areas, bed down areas all changed etc.. Not to mention the logger completely messed up the streams at the top of the mountain, I now have water running everywhere with the 2 main stream beds that run through my property almost DRY.
Sunday I forgot about hunting and went into the woods with a shovel and pick ax instead in an effort to correct some of the stream issues.
Going to review the contact and call him this week to set up a site meeting and try to get him to correct some of his mess. I'm to the point where its almost leave me a dozer, and a payloader/ backhoe with a clam shell bucket and I'll fix it myself!
What started out as good intentions to help the ecosystem has done just the opposite

Bad luck on the tree Vert sorry to hear about that.

Hey Vegas Yep I'd stay away from that deal, even if I didn't need the money and wanted an AR. Peter is right his prices are inflated, scope is entry level junk, you can buy that rifle for $1000.00 all day long scope 29-40 ammo well its been covered

Happy Anniversary BWR :)
BTW, I'll use steel case ammo in my guns if you come over field strip, and clean the action every 10 rounds or so Muaaaaahaaaahaahaaaaa! LOL

Hey here is a pic of my hunting equipment From when I was a tot lol, found it in a drawer in the wash room up state

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

By the way..

I was just thinking this thread may go on as long as the "BOAT NAMES" thread!

Kinda like that "never ending song, that goes on & on & on..."

Long as some jackhole doesnt jack up the hijack thread and it gets closed.

Lol don't know about that, the boat names thread was started in 2001, thats a real long time running.
I just did a fast sort here in the D.C zone the winner of the most posts and probably the quickest is "do you wanna play a game", 1005 posts in 4 days
The winner of the most viewed is a post called the best looking 4 door sedan

Sorting either way though we are an page 1 with 222 posts and 2,685 views. Oops, guess this one makes it 223 :D
But then again, who's keeping track lol

As far as someone getting it closed, I hope to never see that happen, were all on this thread being neighborly having a friendly chat about everyday life and interests .
Although all the gun pic's we post might get some of us put on the ATF watch list  Me included lol

BWR I wuz ROTFLMA

vegas, just one further note on ammo pricing....
The prices I gave you don't even account for the garbage being offered by Wolf Ammunition. 1k rounds of that can be had for <$300, BUT you would never want to use that in a gas tube gun (i.e. AR-15 or M-16).
(That lacquer coating starts to melt off the cases and gum up the action.)

Thanks Peter, yeah Im passing it by, had a few others come by and look at the the glastron for sale, I may have to lower my asking to get the right buyer....well see!

Those are some fine looking guns John, I like the mosin nagant....that ones in good shape! Did anyone check out the video link I posted? NAVY gatling gun rips thru the rounds

Ahhh, a veritable wind-up merchant, I see.
Well, you'd have to take the other side and support the AR-15/M-16 side.
Gas piston beats gas tube in my book.

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Went to the range this morning to sight in my hunting rifle. While there, I also fired several other guns, as did my hunting buddy.

Had a catastrophic failure with my FIE .22mag sixgun. Contacted the ammo maker and it sounds like they're going to make things right for me.

First time in over 50 years of shooting that I've had such a thing happen.

OMG I've never seen anything like that happen. That's enough to stop your heart for a second. Was it a grossly overcharged load? even still its a .22?????

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Hey I need to get some opinions while were on the gun topic, I have a Thompson Center Triumph Muzzle loader. Right now the gun has Williams Fiber optics open sights.
I have hunted with open or peep sights most of my life and never had to take a 2nd shot always killed on the 1st. I only started with a scope on my hunting rifle 2 years ago I do find it easier by far, mainly to verify and count the points on the rack .
Never hunted with a Muzzle loader I will be this year to extend hunting season. All my buddies are saying I should scope the gun, its easier your older, eyesight bla bla bla. They all use scopes the only reason I do now is cause my 742 carbine came with one.
I'm open for more opinions To scope or not to scope.
and if so, wifey is limiting me to $200.00 so that's like a Nikon Pro Staff. I think Leupold would be out
BTW the longest shot this year is probably 100 yards because of the heavy brush I'm dealing with

Opinions anyone, I can't seem to decide

Whether you scope or not is really a matter of personal taste.
If you feel it is "cheating," then do NOT deprive yourself of the satisfaction of a take-down by putting glass on it.

Right now, for someone looking for a scope under $250, I'd have to direct them to Midway for a Simmons White Tail Classic -- on sale for $110. I'd be hard pressed to find a scope with better glass at a price point anywhere in that ballpark. Leave it at the lowest magnification (6.5x) and your field of view will still be respectable.
(For the ranges you are shooting at, you would probably want something in the 3-9x range, but that scope really is at a good price and I think you could still make use of it at the 6.5x power. That scope is also available with mil-dot for $15 more I think.)

HOWEVER, with that said, I do not know how it holds up on a black-powder rifle let alone if the mounting is the same as a standard center-fire rifle. I have never shot black powder and make NO claims about such knowledge. If you like that scope, PLEASE check with others more versed in black powder if it is suitable.

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Hi Peter, Yep I do feel like I'm cheating a little, plus I cant get as fast of a target acquisition with a scope. It is a lot easier though at 100 yds in the brush to get a kill shot, 30 yds not so much. The one reason I am playing with the idea of a scope is I'm finding focusing my eyes at something 100 yds away even with wearing my glasses isn't as easy as it used to be. On my Remington I have a 3x9 usually it never comes off of 3x. I looked at the Simmons the only thing I see might be a problem is the relief, the 50 cal has quite a kick, don't wanna get a black eye lol, I might get it for my 308 or 270 WSM though.
Maybe I'll just get some quick mounts put a scope on her and decide whether or not to use it when the time comes.
