I enjoy watching sports on the TV and with the satelites there's a smorgasboard of games to watch. That being said there are some play by play sportcasters that I have to mute. Hands down the guy I can't listen to is the White Sox announcer that ALWAYS says "Hee Gone" after a White Sox pitcher strikes someone out. Don't know his name....don't want to know it.
While I'm at it Tim McCarver is a close second. ;)
Ahhhh....I feel better.....Happy Good Friday!:p

Re: The Most Annoying Sportscaster

Growing up in the 60's-70's in New York City was a great time to listen to baseball on the radio. Bob Murphy was colorful, brilliant and entertaining doing the Met broadcasts. I had my am 9v radio hanging from my bedpost listening to games as I drifted off to sleep. Lindsey Nelson and Ralph Kiner did the TV on local WOR channel 9 and I loved the way they did games.
These days I really do not have any affinity for Mets broadcasters, or any sports commentators since John Madden left. I think because the game is so business oriented, statistical and over-analyzed for me today. I liked it much better when broadcasters painted you a picture and would draw from their experience, and for the most part kept numbers and opinion out of it.
When I travel, I do make a point to try and listen to the local games on radio. Sometimes it can be harken me back if the guy is "old school". Also nowadays you can tune into most any broadcast streamed over the internet. I sometimes locate the opposing teams station to get a different perspective of the game.
One last note, it is my opinion that John Sterling and Susan Waldman who do the Yankee radio in NY on WCBS 880 are just unlistenable. Check them out sometime and see what you think.

You are so right about those two! Lock them up in a room with that White Sox guy and I'd be happy.

Speaking of painting a picture....Vin Scully's pretty good at that.;)

Tim McCarver
That's where my head was when I saw this thread title . . . Jeez, how does a guy like that keep this particular job when his name has been associated with extreme annoyance for over 10 years?

This thread was over as soon as you typed that statement. No other announcer is even close to as annoying and UNPROFESSIONAL as The Hawk and Pachorik (sp?) They make me sick. The White Sox organization and their fans should be EMBARRASSED to have them in their employ. But alas they are not embarrassed, and that tells you everything you need to know about the White Sox and their fans.

(To get a rise out of me at work, one co-worker will say several of these clowns' catch phrases over the radio when I am in range. It's funny when they do it, though!)

Don't have a problem with any mentioned that I have heard.

You guys must not remember Howard Cosell. After years of Howard no sportscaster will ever again annoy me.

I liked Dandy Don and Frank and remembering back Howard did hit a nerve but IMO he made the team better. Howard and Clay/Ali were priceless!

**** Vitale. Hands down. I'd agree Bill Walton is a hopelessly annoying twit also, can't stand the man!

A local bar here used to put up an old TV, and raffle off the right to throw a brick at it. Howard Cosell got the brick 8 out of 10 times.
