Or in violating it.... I agree it was a bit un-called for, but .... I'm assuming there was a sign? Like in a handicapped parking space?

Honest ociferer, weren't no handicapped around.

If you park in a fire zone, or in front of a fire hydrant and there is no fire do you still deserve a ticket?

I think that is well said......

I think we all get the point that the odds of someone using the ramp are slim to none, but had someone else decided to pull their boat out as well........then what?

The law is there for a reason, regardless of the weather or the fact that you were within sight of the ramp the whole time. The fire hydrant example is perfect......if you just ran into the store and could see you car the whole time and a cop gives you a ticket, you are still guilty. The odds of that fire hyrdrant needing to be used are probably WAY less than someone using that ramp.

I'd just pay the ticket and be done with it. Lesson learned.

ZmOz, I agree you have the right to say what you want regardless of what someones feelings may be......but I agree with everyone that says capitalization makes no difference when it comes to a words meaning.

As much as I hate to admit it, age in this case no doubt plays a role in that understanding. I know if not for the stories my grandma has told me about narrowlly escaping Prague and the Nazi's there, I would not understand to the Level I think I do...........which no matter what doesnt compare to those who lived through it.

The charge? Obstruction the ramp! From who?
What if there was a 911 call for search and rescue for an incident on that stretch of the river? All the first responders arrive with watercraft and there is this deserted truck parked in the way.

Yeah, the ticket sucks, but how would you have felt if there was a vehicle parked as yours was when you went over there. The very fact that you decided to use the ramp means someone else may have wanted to use it. How do you know someone didn't come by and call the police because they couldn't use the ramp? Just pay it and do the right thing next time..

BTW, law enforcement success is determined by the LACK of crime in a given area. Lack of crime is achieved by police presence, and community involvement. Maybe instead of whining about a town having too many cops, you should be glad you don't have to deal with high crime in the first place. I live in a small town, there is a significant police presence, and the worst crime we have is some drug activity and DUIs. I'll take that over drive-bys and home invasions any day...

That's an easy one to answer. I could see the ramp the entire time I was on the water. I watched the cop pull up to the ramp, and BLOCK MY TRUCK IN. Yes, she parked in front of my truck, and blocked me from getting out. I watched her look in the cab, then look at my REAR license plate. I pulled onto the trailer as she got back in her vehicle to write the ticket. I fully loaded the boat onto the trailer, and got back in the vehicle, ready to pull out, before she got out of her vehicle.

NOT ONCE did she come out of the vehicle to speak with me. This was SIMPLY REVENUE GENERATION. And that is all. There is the letter of the law, and there is the intent of the law.

If I had shown up, and seen this vehicle on the ramp...
I would have looked around. Oh look, that boat out there, THE ONLY BOAT ON THE RIVER, must be the owner. I can wait just a minute while he brings the boat over and loads it up. After all, it's OCTOBER, and it snowed this morning.

Yes, I used the word nazi. But good lord, some of you act like you are going to have a heart attack. I used it in angry jest. I don't think she is a true NAZI. Easy up on the coffee in the morning, and be able to take a joke(even if it's in bad taste).

And I repeat, my vehicle, and the ramp, was in my clear view the entire time I was not directly with the vehicle. AND, the law is ambiguously written. It states you should not block the ramp. But simply by using the ramp, I am blocking it. So do I deserve a ticket for that? I cannot leave my vehicle unattended at the ramp, nor my boat. So if I am on the boat, starting it, do I deserve a ticket for leaving my vehicle unattended? Or how about when I tie the boat up to the dock, to move my vehicle? Do I deserve a ticket for leaving my boat unattended then? After all, the law states that that is a violation, and I should be ticketed for such.

So, what say you to that? Where does the "literal" part end, and common sense begin?

You are too young to fully appreciate what "Nazi or nazi" mean. Never mind some pseudointellectual nitpicking. Try the using the infamous "N" word in lower case and see where it gets you. No, never mind. Misuse of language shouldn't be a capital offense.

The law is the law. Some Officers (capitalized) might overlook the law in this case. This one didn't. If you don't like the law, complain to those who made it, not about those sworn to enforce it who decide to do what they are charged with.

"Yabut it wasn't my fault." doesn't float.

But it's OK for Seinfeld to use the nazi word on national TV? "Soup nazi"

How is it the same thing? You make is sound like all laws are the same, regardless. Murder is the same as a parking ticket?

A fire zone is a safety issue, a boat ramp is a convienence issue. I don't park in front of a fire hydrant.

And I'll add that Illinois is the MOST heavily policed state I have seen in a very long time. I see more cops here in the past year, than I saw in MD/DC/CA in the prior 4 years.

Uh, they don't use that ramp. No emergency vehicles use this ramp. They already have boats in the water during the boating season, and they haven't pulled the boats out yet. So the situation is not plausable.

Your argument makes every parking ticket ever written null and void. So if you park anywhere where there is a parking time limit........regardless of a fire hydrant............for more than the allotted time and you get a ticket, Do you think you shouldn't have to pay it because it wasnt a "safety" hazaard? ?

If you were in the boat AT the dock I will agree with you, the ticket is ridiculous. However I would love to say that if I was the guy who came across your truck I would be as you describe

" Oh look, that boat out there, THE ONLY BOAT ON THE RIVER, must be the owner. I can wait just a minute while he brings the boat over and loads it up. After all, it's OCTOBER, and it snowed this morning."

But I know I wouldnt be. I doubt many people would be. We all say we would, but we don't.

Which law did she break exactly? Cuz if parking in front of your truck is one, then everytime I have been pulled over I wasnt given my RIGHT to go in Reverse. If she parked in front of you and walked away you'd have a point.

Its kinda like if you are flamable and have legs, you arent blocking a fire exit.

Dang Speedwagon if you didn't write your own defense.
Look, polish it up some and appear in court. It'll cost you a couple hours. The judges aren't as anti citizen as you might think.
It is a fact that a cop's questionable credibility is often known in advance by the judge.
Do your community a favor and fight it, in person , in a court of law.

Re: The Police(nazi) state I live in...

Let me tell you a story.

I was 17 and driving my 1961 VW bus over to the coast to do my first year as a boat puller on a Salmon Trawler.

Some dillrod decided that HWY 199 wasn't busy at the time and why not park in the shade of that tree and sweet talk that young thing into his car... so he put it in park, set the brake, and moved over into the passenger seat to talk to that young thing....... I never saw him........ jumped the back of that '59 chevy convertible and picked up sweet young thing on my front bumper, took her down the road for 200 ft, under the VW... what was left of it, and me.

He got off without a scratch, she, by an act of God, got off with a bump on her head and a scrape on her shoulder... I did 3 weeks in intensive care and another 2 weeks gen. pop... 6 more weeks with my jaws wired together just because an a** hole didn't think rules pertained to him.

Can you read? Can you comprehend what you read? Was there a sign?

Plead not guilty, they usually fine higher for that.

I wasn't referring to this incident. She will, however, trespass on private property, to go looking around for a way to write you a ticket.

What did you just say? I think you left out some key points there. A guy stopped under a tree, what's wrong with that? And how do you not see a tree?

In the shade of a tree.... in the middle of HWY199

Kinda like parking in front of a fire hydrant, or doing 50 in a 20, or parking in a handicapped spot, or on a boat ramp.

Suck it up, pay it, learn from your mistake... or plead not guilty.. just quit trying to justify it.

Isn't there another thread on here right now, complaining about how democrats (apparently only democrats?) never take responsibility for their actions?

Jeez dude! You took a chance leaving the truck on the ramp, apparently KNOWING that there is an uptight, control freak cop in your area, and she bagged you on a lame technicality. The only person to blame is you, for taking the risk. You lost.

Back when I was in my 20's I used to get pretty PO'd about how unfair it was when I got speeding or other traffic tickets. ( I once got a ticket for $50 for parking for 20 minutes on the wrong side of a residential street at 11 at night) Then I learned to just stay out of that kind of trouble, and presto! no more tickets.

"Let me tell you a story."

Damn custom! In the MIDDLE of 199?! That is about the stupidest traffic accident story I've ever heard. That road is nothing to mess with.

When I lived in Northern Cal, I almost killed a couple of tourists like that. I was taking the scenic redwood bypass highway home from the store, and came around the corner doing 50 and there were these two idiots, standing right in the middle of the road, looking up at the redwoods. It was a very close call, big old international trucks aren't known for short stopping distances.
