Thinking about going back to Internet Explorer

I have been a die hard Firefox guy for about 5 years. Lately I have been getting some weird lags when scrolling and also using a lot of CPU on certain sites with FF. I have tried Chrome and they don't offer a sidebar for Bookmarks etc. and it just doesn't work for me. I got that habit from IE in the first place, and I just have to have a sidebar. I have been trying IE lately and feels pretty dang good no matter how hard that is to say. Any thoughts? I really want to hear from those who have tried both (IE and FF) recently, or use both continually. No need to discuss Chrome due to note above. Thanks all.

Re: Thinking about going back to Internet Explorer

I have one site that IE10 just won't work on, for that I use FF or Chrome. Other than that I can't think of a reason to use anything else but IE. For a while FF was great and IE was slow, the latest versions of FF just seem really laggy.

I like Chrome. It seams to work pretty well, does not have many bugs. Only complaint is that with Microsoft web apps like SharePoint or OWA it does not display like it should.

I won't touch IE with your computer, I know there have been some problems as of late with FF, but the flow is just so much better than IE and I have way more flexibility to program certain features that I like in FF, you can actually write your own ad on's for FF if you are so inclined, you can't do that with IE. Another thing I hate about IE, is the fact it is an integrated part of your operating system. I can uninstall FF any time I want to, you can't uninstall IE any longer, I used to be able to, but the core routines in IE, does not allow it to be uninstalled. I don't like being told what I can and can't do!

Yeah, I hear you MT, but OJ is really talking my concern. Ultimately I don't care who is in control of what, I just want a reliable Browser with a sidebar. Right now it's feeling like IE is "better" than Firefox at the primary job.

QC, then use what works for you, I know tens of millions use IE, if it works for what you are doing, then by all means that is the way to go, being retired, I spend a lot of time playing with things, computers just happen to be one of them. I will be glad when I can get back outside and play with my boat and fishing poles!

Re: Thinking about going back to Internet Explorer

I jumped from IE to FF and was glad to do it. I am thinking the only reason I am resisting going back is my distaste for IE in the first place. Feels like they have seen the exodus and are responding with a better product now, hence the question.

Just for grins using IE - see if you can view this site. Click on one of the menu items (Skis, boots, etc) and see if you get anything other than a new background. I've never been able to figure out if it is IE or if they have so much java in the site that my security settings keep it from working. Only site I've ever seen this on and it is a really goofy looking artsy site. Great skis, horrible website.

I quit using firefox when windows 7 came out...too many quirks with it......your right about chrome it totally sucks....you might want to try some of the Linux like the Live Cd's,they are real neat and you don't have to install ....they make you appreciate the ease of wndows+ explorer....just my 2 cents

I prefer Firefox but it does have a few quirks with some sites. In order to get VPN running on my PC, Firefox came out with an update that doesn't allow me to start it from Firefox anymore. Only IE works.

GF is having issues logging into her Citrix network with FireFox as well.

Well, anything built for business is setup for IE. I have yet to see any major company that has adopted FF or Chrome as a corp standard, or even tests with it for anything other than public facing sites.

Interesting, must be my security settings then - probably the java stuff. I'm running 2012 Server with IE10, but from a client app perspective it is basically Win 8.

Most businesses usually make sure they work on all popular browsers. I know I made sure that the simple website I made works on the main 3.

For external stuff yes. For the things that run in house, not so much.

Re: Thinking about going back to Internet Explorer

I have developed a preference for Firefox over the years, but don't really care what browser I use.

Pretty much on a regular basis, I use all four popular browsers . . . IE, FF, Safari, Chrome.

Not sure why folks are excited about chrome
