Ya know JB, I think I really do understand iboats' difficult position in this matter. It's too bad some of iboats' long time clients/customers/forum users have decided to get real fussy about certian hot words, (whether used intentionally or not), or their own inability to engage in civil discourse without getting real emotional and calling people names, or trying to unfairly label them racists. It probably means that iboats will have to shut down DC or really tame it as at least one of the people who complained about my posts suggested, (and he made his threat in business terms that iboats must consider). I for one: am real sorry to be part of what ever problem it was that I caused, (if it was me that caused it). I admit that I love to debate politics, and the anominity this iboats' forum affords is great; and the manners and brains of most of the posters have been impressive to me. I have come to iboats fairly recently, and did not discover DC until I had read most of the posts about my old outboard motors. I hope I did not cause this problem, as two of the long term users seemed to suggest that I did, (and without spending a lot of time looking back at old posts), I will never really know. I plan to do business with iboats when I can in the future, and it was a lot of fun for me for a couple of months here. Hope iboats can resolve this in a positive way, but I expect they will have to make a real major change of format to deny potentially offensive conduct, that some here just can't take. OMR, I am not JB, but I have n/p with you.
There are some on here though that just can not keep from posting troll topics for the sole intention of starting a shouting match, name calling thread and us, the mod squad, are throwing this subject around among ourself to see what the best solution is.

Hey SBN, Thanks for the reply! I actually do understand: SBN. If you and the other Mods/iboats choose to allow political topics, those who are not emotionally mature and lack debating skills will get hurt feelings and lash out, so it is a 'catch 22' situation for iboats. Regardless of what you folks decide: I for one do appreciate this forum. Too bad it had to happen, is all I am saying. Ray: one of the people who complained about me did put it in $ terms to iboats, and requested censure or shutting down DC. I don't think anyone spends enough bux with iboats to bend Admin's principles.

I don't think it is the topics that are our problem, I think it is short tempers and deliberate provocation by a few, as well as completely unintended tripping of hot buttons by members with no ill intent while expressing their views.

WillyB and OMR: you are no more guilty of getting out of line than many others. Whatever problems i have with what you, and several others, said in the heat of the moment I have no problem with who any of you are as people.

I saw the spark planted and I saw who planted it. It was my bad that I didn't stomp it out on the spot.

Speaking of which, this thread is about topics . . . presumably a not-very-funny reference to the possibilities of politics being banned as a topic here or even the discontinuance of DC altogether.

How many of the above posts address the topic? Several address no topic known to inhabitants of this planet. Off topic hijacks are a big part of the problem because they start more flame wars than original topics.

We Mods are cracking down on hostile or troll language directed at any member, insults, off topic hijacks and, of course, any unacceptable language. We may edit or delete. Any discussion about it will be by PM or Email, not here.

Now, I suggest that all contributors to this thread go back and look at what you have posted. Any of that stuff there? Why not edit it yourselves so we can proceed with discussion of whether any particular type of topic should be banned here.

Trying to get on topic: I believe too much of a good thing or not enough of same may lead to bunnies with butterflies trying to knit.
