Doesn't this seem unreasonable and what should I do? I have a 2001 31 Contender center console with twin 250 Fuel Injection Saltwater Series II engines. The powerhead on the starboard engine has been replace three times in the last 140 hours and I have lost faith in this engine to get me safely between south Florida and the out islands of the Bahamas. All three times Yamaha has done the repairs at no cost to me. However, my family has lost faith in this motor and no longer feels safe in our travels to the Bahamas. Two times I have lost prepaid house rentals, have had to fly 4 of my family home to reduce weight in the boat, had to put additional strain and wear on the remaining engine to make it back to Florida, lost vacation time with my family, and put my wife through some real mental anguish. My questions to knowledgeable boaters are 1) Is having 3 new powerheads in 140 hours normal? 2) What should I expect from Yamaha? 3) Has anyone had a similar problem and what was the solution. I have asked Yamaha to sell me two new engines at their cost and help me sell my two engines and I would pay the difference. Does this sound like a fair solution? Thanks.
